For the music director; according to the gittith style; written by the Korahites, a psalm. How lovely is the place where you live, O LORD who rules over all! | 1How lovely are your dwelling places, LORD of the Heavenly Armies. |
I desperately want to be in the courts of the LORD's temple. My heart and my entire being shout for joy to the living God. | 2I desire and long for the Temple courts of the LORD. My heart and body sing for joy to the living God. |
Even the birds find a home there, and the swallow builds a nest, where she can protect her young near your altars, O LORD who rules over all, my king and my God. | 3Even the sparrow found a house for herself and the swallow a nest to lay her young at your altar, LORD of the Heavenly Armies, my king and God. |
How blessed are those who live in your temple and praise you continually! (Selah) | 4How happy are those who live in your Temple, for they can praise you continuously. Interlude |
How blessed are those who find their strength in you, and long to travel the roads that lead to your temple! | 5How happy are those whose strength is in you, whose heart is on your path. |
As they pass through the Baca Valley, he provides a spring for them. The rain even covers it with pools of water. | 6They will pass through the Baca Valley where he will prepare a spring for them; even the early rain will cover it with blessings. |
They are sustained as they travel along; each one appears before God in Zion. | 7They will walk from strength to strength; each will appear before God in Zion. |
O LORD, sovereign God, hear my prayer! Listen, O God of Jacob! (Selah) | 8LORD God of the Heavenly Armies, hear my prayer! Listen, God of Jacob! Interlude |
O God, take notice of our shield! Show concern for your chosen king! | 9God, look at our shield, and show favor to your anointed, |
Certainly spending just one day in your temple courts is better than spending a thousand elsewhere. I would rather stand at the entrance to the temple of my God than live in the tents of the wicked. | 10for a day in your Temple courts is better than a thousand elsewhere; I would rather stand at the entrance of God's house than live in the tent of wickedness. |
For the LORD God is our sovereign protector. The LORD bestows favor and honor; he withholds no good thing from those who have integrity. | 11For the LORD God is a sun and shield; the LORD grants grace and favor; the LORD will not withhold any good thing from those who walk blamelessly. |
O LORD who rules over all, how blessed are those who trust in you! | 12LORD of Heavenly Armies, how happy are those who trust in you. |
