NET Bible | New Living Translation |
For the music director; according to the gittith style; written by the Korahites, a psalm. How lovely is the place where you live, O LORD who rules over all! | 1How lovely is your dwelling place, O LORD of Heaven’s Armies. |
I desperately want to be in the courts of the LORD's temple. My heart and my entire being shout for joy to the living God. | 2I long, yes, I faint with longing to enter the courts of the LORD. With my whole being, body and soul, I will shout joyfully to the living God. |
Even the birds find a home there, and the swallow builds a nest, where she can protect her young near your altars, O LORD who rules over all, my king and my God. | 3Even the sparrow finds a home, and the swallow builds her nest and raises her young at a place near your altar, O LORD of Heaven’s Armies, my King and my God! |
How blessed are those who live in your temple and praise you continually! (Selah) | 4What joy for those who can live in your house, always singing your praises. Interlude |
How blessed are those who find their strength in you, and long to travel the roads that lead to your temple! | 5What joy for those whose strength comes from the LORD, who have set their minds on a pilgrimage to Jerusalem. |
As they pass through the Baca Valley, he provides a spring for them. The rain even covers it with pools of water. | 6When they walk through the Valley of Weeping, it will become a place of refreshing springs. The autumn rains will clothe it with blessings. |
They are sustained as they travel along; each one appears before God in Zion. | 7They will continue to grow stronger, and each of them will appear before God in Jerusalem. |
O LORD, sovereign God, hear my prayer! Listen, O God of Jacob! (Selah) | 8O LORD God of Heaven’s Armies, hear my prayer. Listen, O God of Jacob. Interlude |
O God, take notice of our shield! Show concern for your chosen king! | 9O God, look with favor upon the king, our shield! Show favor to the one you have anointed. |
Certainly spending just one day in your temple courts is better than spending a thousand elsewhere. I would rather stand at the entrance to the temple of my God than live in the tents of the wicked. | 10A single day in your courts is better than a thousand anywhere else! I would rather be a gatekeeper in the house of my God than live the good life in the homes of the wicked. |
For the LORD God is our sovereign protector. The LORD bestows favor and honor; he withholds no good thing from those who have integrity. | 11For the LORD God is our sun and our shield. He gives us grace and glory. The LORD will withhold no good thing from those who do what is right. |
O LORD who rules over all, how blessed are those who trust in you! | 12O LORD of Heaven’s Armies, what joy for those who trust in you. |
