| 1A song of ascents. From the deep water I cry out to you, O LORD. | 1I cry to you from the depths, LORD, |
| 2O Lord, listen to me! Pay attention to my plea for mercy! | 2Lord, listen to my voice; let your ears pay attention to what I ask of you! |
| 3If you, O LORD, were to keep track of sins, O Lord, who could stand before you? | 3LORD, if you were to record iniquities, Lord, who could remain standing? |
| 4But you are willing to forgive, so that you might be honored. | 4But with you there is forgiveness, so that you may be feared. |
| 5I rely on the LORD, I rely on him with my whole being; I wait for his assuring word. | 5I wait for the LORD; my soul waits, and I will hope in his word. |
| 6I yearn for the Lord, more than watchmen do for the morning, yes, more than watchmen do for the morning. | 6My soul looks to the Lord more than watchmen look for the morning— more, indeed, than watchmen for the morning. |
| 7O Israel, hope in the LORD, for the LORD exhibits loyal love, and is more than willing to deliver. | 7Israel, hope in the LORD! For with the LORD there is gracious love, along with abundant redemption. |
