For the music director; written by the LORD's servant, David; an oracle. An evil man is rebellious to the core. He does not fear God, | 1For the choir director. A psalm of David, the LORD's servant. An oracle within my heart concerning the transgression of the wicked person: There is no dread of God before his eyes, |
for he is too proud to recognize and give up his sin. | 2for in his own eyes he flatters himself too much to discover and hate his sin. |
The words he speaks are sinful and deceitful; he does not care about doing what is wise and right. | 3The words of his mouth are malicious and deceptive; he has stopped acting wisely and doing good. |
He plans ways to sin while he lies in bed; he is committed to a sinful lifestyle; he does not reject what is evil. | 4Even on his bed he makes malicious plans. He sets himself on a path that is not good and does not reject evil. |
O LORD, your loyal love reaches to the sky; your faithfulness to the clouds. | 5 LORD, Your faithful love reaches to heaven, Your faithfulness to the clouds. |
Your justice is like the highest mountains, your fairness like the deepest sea; you preserve mankind and the animal kingdom. | 6Your righteousness is like the highest mountains; Your judgments, like the deepest sea. LORD, You preserve man and beast. |
How precious is your loyal love, O God! The human race finds shelter under your wings. | 7God, Your faithful love is so valuable that people take refuge in the shadow of Your wings. |
They are filled with food from your house, and you allow them to drink from the river of your delicacies. | 8They are filled from the abundance of Your house; You let them drink from Your refreshing stream, |
For you are the one who gives and sustains life. | 9for with You is life's fountain. In Your light we will see light. |
Extend your loyal love to your faithful followers, and vindicate the morally upright! | 10Spread Your faithful love over those who know You, and Your righteousness over the upright in heart. |
Do not let arrogant men overtake me, or let evil men make me homeless! | 11Do not let the foot of the arrogant man come near me or the hand of the wicked one drive me away. |
I can see the evildoers! They have fallen! They have been knocked down and are unable to get up! | 12There the evildoers fall; they have been thrown down and cannot rise. |
