| 1The LORD spoke to Moses: | 1The LORD spoke to Moses, saying, |
| 2"Make two trumpets of silver; you are to make them from a single hammered piece. You will use them for assembling the community and for directing the traveling of the camps. | 2“Make two silver trumpets. Of hammered work you shall make them, and you shall use them for summoning the congregation and for breaking camp. |
| 3When they blow them both, all the community must come to you to the entrance of the tent of meeting. | 3And when both are blown, all the congregation shall gather themselves to you at the entrance of the tent of meeting. |
| 4"But if they blow with one trumpet, then the leaders, the heads of the thousands of Israel, must come to you. | 4But if they blow only one, then the chiefs, the heads of the tribes of Israel, shall gather themselves to you. |
| 5When you blow an alarm, then the camps that are located on the east side must begin to travel. | 5When you blow an alarm, the camps that are on the east side shall set out. |
| 6And when you blow an alarm the second time, then the camps that are located on the south side must begin to travel. An alarm must be sounded for their journeys. | 6And when you blow an alarm the second time, the camps that are on the south side shall set out. An alarm is to be blown whenever they are to set out. |
| 7But when you assemble the community, you must blow, but you must not sound an alarm. | 7But when the assembly is to be gathered together, you shall blow a long blast, but you shall not sound an alarm. |
| 8The sons of Aaron, the priests, must blow the trumpets; and they will be to you for an eternal ordinance throughout your generations. | 8And the sons of Aaron, the priests, shall blow the trumpets. The trumpets shall be to you for a perpetual statute throughout your generations. |
| 9If you go to war in your land against an adversary who opposes you, then you must sound an alarm with the trumpets, and you will be remembered before the LORD your God, and you will be saved from your enemies. | 9And when you go to war in your land against the adversary who oppresses you, then you shall sound an alarm with the trumpets, that you may be remembered before the LORD your God, and you shall be saved from your enemies. |
| 10"Also in the time when you rejoice, such as on your appointed festivals or at the beginnings of your months, you must blow with your trumpets over your burnt offerings and over the sacrifices of your peace offerings, so that they may become a memorial for you before your God: I am the LORD your God." | 10On the day of your gladness also, and at your appointed feasts and at the beginnings of your months, you shall blow the trumpets over your burnt offerings and over the sacrifices of your peace offerings. They shall be a reminder of you before your God: I am the LORD your God.” |

| 20and over the company of the tribe of the Gadites was Eliasaph son of Deuel. | 20And over the company of the tribe of the people of Gad was Eliasaph the son of Deuel. |
| 21And the Kohathites set out, carrying the articles for the sanctuary; the tabernacle was to be set up before they arrived. | 21Then the Kohathites set out, carrying the holy things, and the tabernacle was set up before their arrival. |
| 22And the standard of the camp of the Ephraimites set out according to their companies; over his company was Elishama son of Ammihud. | 22And the standard of the camp of the people of Ephraim set out by their companies, and over their company was Elishama the son of Ammihud. |
| 23Over the company of the tribe of the Manassehites was Gamaliel son of Pedahzur, | 23And over the company of the tribe of the people of Manasseh was Gamaliel the son of Pedahzur. |
| 24and over the company of the tribe of Benjaminites was Abidan son of Gideoni. | 24And over the company of the tribe of the people of Benjamin was Abidan the son of Gideoni. |
| 25The standard of the camp of the Danites set out, which was the rear guard of all the camps by their companies; over his company was Ahiezer son of Ammishaddai. | 25Then the standard of the camp of the people of Dan, acting as the rear guard of all the camps, set out by their companies, and over their company was Ahiezer the son of Ammishaddai. |
| 26Over the company of the tribe of the Asherites was Pagiel son of Ocran, | 26And over the company of the tribe of the people of Asher was Pagiel the son of Ochran. |
| 27and over the company of the tribe of the Naphtalites was Ahira son of Enan. | 27And over the company of the tribe of the people of Naphtali was Ahira the son of Enan. |
| 28These were the traveling arrangements of the Israelites according to their companies when they traveled. | 28This was the order of march of the people of Israel by their companies, when they set out. |
| 29Moses said to Hobab son of Reuel, the Midianite, Moses' father-in-law, "We are journeying to the place about which the LORD said, 'I will give it to you.' Come with us and we will treat you well, for the LORD has promised good things for Israel." | 29And Moses said to Hobab the son of Reuel the Midianite, Moses’ father-in-law, “We are setting out for the place of which the LORD said, ‘I will give it to you.’ Come with us, and we will do good to you, for the LORD has promised good to Israel.” |
| 30But Hobab said to him, "I will not go, but I will go instead to my own land and to my kindred." | 30But he said to him, “I will not go. I will depart to my own land and to my kindred.” |
| 31Moses said, "Do not leave us, because you know places for us to camp in the wilderness, and you could be our guide. | 31And he said, “Please do not leave us, for you know where we should camp in the wilderness, and you will serve as eyes for us. |
| 32And if you come with us, it is certain that whatever good things the LORD will favor us with, we will share with you as well." | 32And if you do go with us, whatever good the LORD will do to us, the same will we do to you.” |
| 33So they traveled from the mountain of the LORD three days' journey; and the ark of the covenant of the LORD was traveling before them during the three days' journey, to find a resting place for them. | 33So they set out from the mount of the LORD three days’ journey. And the ark of the covenant of the LORD went before them three days’ journey, to seek out a resting place for them. |
| 34And the cloud of the LORD was over them by day, when they traveled from the camp. | 34And the cloud of the LORD was over them by day, whenever they set out from the camp. |
| 35And when the ark traveled, Moses would say, "Rise up, O LORD! May your enemies be scattered, and may those who hate you flee before you!" | 35And whenever the ark set out, Moses said, “Arise, O LORD, and let your enemies be scattered, and let those who hate you flee before you.” |
| 36And when it came to rest he would say, "Return, O LORD, to the many thousands of Israel!" | 36And when it rested, he said, “Return, O LORD, to the ten thousand thousands of Israel.” |
