| 1For the music director; according to the al-tashcheth style; a prayer of David. Do you rulers really pronounce just decisions? Do you judge people fairly? | 1Do you really speak righteously, you mighty ones? Do you judge people fairly? |
| 2No! You plan how to do what is unjust; you deal out violence in the earth. | 2No, you practice injustice in your hearts; with your hands you weigh out violence in the land. |
| 3The wicked turn aside from birth; liars go astray as soon as they are born. | 3The wicked go astray from the womb; liars wander about from birth. |
| 4Their venom is like that of a snake, like a deaf serpent that does not hear, | 4They have venom like the venom of a snake, like the deaf cobra that stops up its ears, |
| 5that does not respond to the magicians, or to a skilled snake-charmer. | 5that does not listen to the sound of the charmers who skillfully weave spells. |
| 6O God, break the teeth in their mouths! Smash the jawbones of the lions, O LORD! | 6God, knock the teeth out of their mouths; LORD, tear out the young lions' fangs. |
