A song of ascents. When the LORD restored the well-being of Zion, we thought we were dreaming. | 1When the LORD restored the fortunes of Zion, we were like those who dream. |
At that time we laughed loudly and shouted for joy. At that time the nations said, "The LORD has accomplished great things for these people." | 2Our mouths were filled with laughter then, and our tongues with shouts of joy. Then they said among the nations, "The LORD has done great things for them." |
The LORD did indeed accomplish great things for us. We were happy. | 3The LORD had done great things for us; we were joyful. |
O LORD, restore our well-being, just as the streams in the arid south are replenished. | 4Restore our fortunes, LORD, like watercourses in the Negev. |
Those who shed tears as they plant will shout for joy when they reap the harvest. | 5Those who sow in tears will reap with shouts of joy. |
The one who weeps as he walks along, carrying his bag of seed, will certainly come in with a shout of joy, carrying his sheaves of grain. | 6Though one goes along weeping, carrying the bag of seed, he will surely come back with shouts of joy, carrying his sheaves. |
