He was the only governor over the district.
Judah and Israel were as numerous as the sand that is on the seashore in abundance; they were eating and drinking and rejoicing.20The people of Judah and Israel were as numerous as the sand on the seashore; they ate, they drank and they were happy.
Now Solomon ruled over all the kingdoms from the River to the land of the Philistines and to the border of Egypt; they brought tribute and served Solomon all the days of his life.21And Solomon ruled over all the kingdoms from the Euphrates River to the land of the Philistines, as far as the border of Egypt. These countries brought tribute and were Solomon's subjects all his life.
Solomon's provision for one day was thirty kors of fine flour and sixty kors of meal,22Solomon's daily provisions were thirty cors of the finest flour and sixty cors of meal,
ten fat oxen, twenty pasture-fed oxen, a hundred sheep besides deer, gazelles, roebucks, and fattened fowl.23ten head of stall-fed cattle, twenty of pasture-fed cattle and a hundred sheep and goats, as well as deer, gazelles, roebucks and choice fowl.
For he had dominion over everything west of the River, from Tiphsah even to Gaza, over all the kings west of the River; and he had peace on all sides around about him.24For he ruled over all the kingdoms west of the Euphrates River, from Tiphsah to Gaza, and had peace on all sides.
So Judah and Israel lived in safety, every man under his vine and his fig tree, from Dan even to Beersheba, all the days of Solomon.25During Solomon's lifetime Judah and Israel, from Dan to Beersheba, lived in safety, everyone under their own vine and under their own fig tree.
Solomon had 40,000 stalls of horses for his chariots, and 12,000 horsemen.26Solomon had four thousand stalls for chariot horses, and twelve thousand horses.
Those deputies provided for King Solomon and all who came to King Solomon's table, each in his month; they left nothing lacking.27The district governors, each in his month, supplied provisions for King Solomon and all who came to the king's table. They saw to it that nothing was lacking.
They also brought barley and straw for the horses and swift steeds to the place where it should be, each according to his charge.28They also brought to the proper place their quotas of barley and straw for the chariot horses and the other horses.
Now God gave Solomon wisdom and very great discernment and breadth of mind, like the sand that is on the seashore.29God gave Solomon wisdom and very great insight, and a breadth of understanding as measureless as the sand on the seashore.
Solomon's wisdom surpassed the wisdom of all the sons of the east and all the wisdom of Egypt.30Solomon's wisdom was greater than the wisdom of all the people of the East, and greater than all the wisdom of Egypt.
For he was wiser than all men, than Ethan the Ezrahite, Heman, Calcol and Darda, the sons of Mahol; and his fame was known in all the surrounding nations.31He was wiser than anyone else, including Ethan the Ezrahite--wiser than Heman, Kalkol and Darda, the sons of Mahol. And his fame spread to all the surrounding nations.
He also spoke 3,000 proverbs, and his songs were 1,005.32He spoke three thousand proverbs and his songs numbered a thousand and five.
He spoke of trees, from the cedar that is in Lebanon even to the hyssop that grows on the wall; he spoke also of animals and birds and creeping things and fish.33He spoke about plant life, from the cedar of Lebanon to the hyssop that grows out of walls. He also spoke about animals and birds, reptiles and fish.
Men came from all peoples to hear the wisdom of Solomon, from all the kings of the earth who had heard of his wisdom.34From all nations people came to listen to Solomon's wisdom, sent by all the kings of the world, who had heard of his wisdom.
