Then the LORD said to Job,1Then the LORD answered Job:
"Will the faultfinder contend with the Almighty? Let him who reproves God answer it."2"Will the one who contends with the Almighty correct him? Let the person who accuses God give him an answer!"
Then Job answered the LORD and said,3Then Job answered the LORD:
"Behold, I am insignificant; what can I reply to You? I lay my hand on my mouth.4"Indeed, I am completely unworthy--how could I reply to you? I put my hand over my mouth to silence myself.
"Once I have spoken, and I will not answer; Even twice, and I will add nothing more."5I have spoken once, but I cannot answer; twice, but I will say no more."
Then the LORD answered Job out of the storm and said,6Then the LORD answered Job from the whirlwind:
"Now gird up your loins like a man; I will ask you, and you instruct Me.7"Get ready for a difficult task like a man. I will question you and you will inform me!
"Will you really annul My judgment? Will you condemn Me that you may be justified?8Would you indeed annul my justice? Would you declare me guilty so that you might be right?
"Or do you have an arm like God, And can you thunder with a voice like His?9Do you have an arm as powerful as God's, and can you thunder with a voice like his?
"Adorn yourself with eminence and dignity, And clothe yourself with honor and majesty.10Adorn yourself, then, with majesty and excellency, and clothe yourself with glory and honor!
"Pour out the overflowings of your anger, And look on everyone who is proud, and make him low.11Scatter abroad the abundance of your anger. Look at every proud man and bring him low;
"Look on everyone who is proud, and humble him, And tread down the wicked where they stand.12Look at every proud man and abase him; crush the wicked on the spot!
"Hide them in the dust together; Bind them in the hidden place.13Hide them in the dust together, imprison them in the grave.
"Then I will also confess to you, That your own right hand can save you.14Then I myself will acknowledge to you that your own right hand can save you.
"Behold now, Behemoth, which I made as well as you; He eats grass like an ox.15"Look now at Behemoth, which I made as I made you; it eats grass like the ox.
"Behold now, his strength in his loins And his power in the muscles of his belly.16Look at its strength in its loins, and its power in the muscles of its belly.
"He bends his tail like a cedar; The sinews of his thighs are knit together.17It makes its tail stiff like a cedar, the sinews of its thighs are tightly wound.
"His bones are tubes of bronze; His limbs are like bars of iron.18Its bones are tubes of bronze, its limbs like bars of iron.
"He is the first of the ways of God; Let his maker bring near his sword.19It ranks first among the works of God, the One who made it has furnished it with a sword.
"Surely the mountains bring him food, And all the beasts of the field play there.20For the hills bring it food, where all the wild animals play.
"Under the lotus plants he lies down, In the covert of the reeds and the marsh.21Under the lotus trees it lies, in the secrecy of the reeds and the marsh.
"The lotus plants cover him with shade; The willows of the brook surround him.22The lotus trees conceal it in their shadow; the poplars by the stream conceal it.
"If a river rages, he is not alarmed; He is confident, though the Jordan rushes to his mouth.23If the river rages, it is not disturbed, it is secure, though the Jordan should surge up to its mouth.
"Can anyone capture him when he is on watch, With barbs can anyone pierce his nose?24Can anyone catch it by its eyes, or pierce its nose with a snare?
