New American Standard Bible 1995International Standard Version
Then the LORD said to Job,1The LORD continued his response to Job by saying:
"Will the faultfinder contend with the Almighty? Let him who reproves God answer it."2"Should the one who is fighting the Almighty find fault with him? Let God's accuser answer."
Then Job answered the LORD and said,3Then Job replied to the LORD. He said:
"Behold, I am insignificant; what can I reply to You? I lay my hand on my mouth.4"I must look insignificant to you! How can I answer you? I'm speechless.
"Once I have spoken, and I will not answer; Even twice, and I will add nothing more."5I spoke once, but I can't answer; I tried a second time, but I won't do so anymore."
Then the LORD answered Job out of the storm and said,6The LORD answered Job from the wind storm and told him:
"Now gird up your loins like a man; I will ask you, and you instruct Me.7"Stand up like a man! I'll ask you some questions, and you give me some answers!
"Will you really annul My judgment? Will you condemn Me that you may be justified?8Indeed would you annul my justice and condemn me, just so you can claim that you're righteous?
"Or do you have an arm like God, And can you thunder with a voice like His?9Do you have strength like God? Can you create thunder with a sound like he can?"
"Adorn yourself with eminence and dignity, And clothe yourself with honor and majesty.10"When you have adorned yourself with exalted majesty, clothed yourself with splendor and dignity,
"Pour out the overflowings of your anger, And look on everyone who is proud, and make him low.11dispensed the fury of your anger, made sure that you have humbled every proud person,
"Look on everyone who is proud, and humble him, And tread down the wicked where they stand.12stared down and subdued every proud person, trampled the wicked right where they are,
"Hide them in the dust together; Bind them in the hidden place.13buried them in the dust together, and sent them bound to that secret place,
"Then I will also confess to you, That your own right hand can save you.14then I will applaud you myself! I'll admit that you can deliver yourself by your own efforts!"
"Behold now, Behemoth, which I made as well as you; He eats grass like an ox.15"Please observe Behemoth, which I made along with you. He eats grass like an ox.
"Behold now, his strength in his loins And his power in the muscles of his belly.16Now take a look at the strength that he has in his loins, and in the muscles of his abdomen.
"He bends his tail like a cedar; The sinews of his thighs are knit together.17His tail protrudes stiffly, like cedar; the sinews of his thigh interlink for strength.
"His bones are tubes of bronze; His limbs are like bars of iron.18His bones are conduits of bronze; his strong bones are like bars of iron.
"He is the first of the ways of God; Let his maker bring near his sword.19He is the grandest of God's undertakings, yet his creator is approaching him with his sword.
"Surely the mountains bring him food, And all the beasts of the field play there.20Mountains produce food for him, where all the wild animals frolic.
"Under the lotus plants he lies down, In the covert of the reeds and the marsh.21He lies under the lotus trees, hiding under reeds and marshes.
"The lotus plants cover him with shade; The willows of the brook surround him.22The lotus trees cover him with their shade, and willows that line the wadis surround him.
"If a river rages, he is not alarmed; He is confident, though the Jordan rushes to his mouth.23What you see as a raging river doesn't alarm him; he is confident when the Jordan overflows.
"Can anyone capture him when he is on watch, With barbs can anyone pierce his nose?24Are your eyes looking to capture him, or to pierce his snout with a bridle?"
