Then the LORD said to Job, | 1And the LORD said to Job: |
"Will the faultfinder contend with the Almighty? Let him who reproves God answer it." | 2“Shall a faultfinder contend with the Almighty? He who argues with God, let him answer it.” |
Then Job answered the LORD and said, | 3Then Job answered the LORD and said: |
"Behold, I am insignificant; what can I reply to You? I lay my hand on my mouth. | 4“Behold, I am of small account; what shall I answer you? I lay my hand on my mouth. |
"Once I have spoken, and I will not answer; Even twice, and I will add nothing more." | 5I have spoken once, and I will not answer; twice, but I will proceed no further.” |
Then the LORD answered Job out of the storm and said, | 6Then the LORD answered Job out of the whirlwind and said: |
"Now gird up your loins like a man; I will ask you, and you instruct Me. | 7“Dress for action like a man; I will question you, and you make it known to me. |
"Will you really annul My judgment? Will you condemn Me that you may be justified? | 8Will you even put me in the wrong? Will you condemn me that you may be in the right? |
"Or do you have an arm like God, And can you thunder with a voice like His? | 9Have you an arm like God, and can you thunder with a voice like his? |

"Pour out the overflowings of your anger, And look on everyone who is proud, and make him low. | 11Pour out the overflowings of your anger, and look on everyone who is proud and abase him. |
"Look on everyone who is proud, and humble him, And tread down the wicked where they stand. | 12Look on everyone who is proud and bring him low and tread down the wicked where they stand. |
"Hide them in the dust together; Bind them in the hidden place. | 13Hide them all in the dust together; bind their faces in the world below. |
"Then I will also confess to you, That your own right hand can save you. | 14Then will I also acknowledge to you that your own right hand can save you. |
"Behold now, Behemoth, which I made as well as you; He eats grass like an ox. | 15“Behold, Behemoth, which I made as I made you; he eats grass like an ox. |
"Behold now, his strength in his loins And his power in the muscles of his belly. | 16Behold, his strength in his loins, and his power in the muscles of his belly. |
