New American Standard Bible 1995 | International Standard Version |
For the choir director. A Psalm of David. Rescue me, O LORD, from evil men; Preserve me from violent men | 1 Deliver me, LORD, from evil people, preserve me from violent men, |
Who devise evil things in their hearts; They continually stir up wars. | 2who craft evil plans in their minds, inciting wars every day. |
They sharpen their tongues as a serpent; Poison of a viper is under their lips. Selah. | 3They sharpen their tongues like a serpent; the venom of vipers is on their lips. Interlude |
Keep me, O LORD, from the hands of the wicked; Preserve me from violent men Who have purposed to trip up my feet. | 4Protect me, LORD, from the control of evil people, from violent men who have planned to trip me. |
The proud have hidden a trap for me, and cords; They have spread a net by the wayside; They have set snares for me. Selah. | 5The arrogant have laid a trap for me; they have spread a net with ropes, lining it with snares along the way. Interlude |
I said to the LORD, "You are my God; Give ear, O LORD, to the voice of my supplications. | 6So I say to the LORD, "You are my God; listen to my voice as I plead for mercy, LORD. |
"O GOD the Lord, the strength of my salvation, You have covered my head in the day of battle. | 7LORD, my Lord, my strong deliverer, you have protected my head in the time of battle. |
"Do not grant, O LORD, the desires of the wicked; Do not promote his evil device, that they not be exalted. Selah. | 8Never grant, LORD, the desires of the wicked; never condone their plans so they cannot exalt themselves. Interlude |
"As for the head of those who surround me, May the mischief of their lips cover them. | 9May those who surround me discover that the trouble they talk about falls on their own head! |
"May burning coals fall upon them; May they be cast into the fire, Into deep pits from which they cannot rise. | 10May burning coals fall on them; may they be cast into fire, and into miry pits, never to rise again. |
"May a slanderer not be established in the earth; May evil hunt the violent man speedily." | 11Let not the slanderer become established in the land. May evil quickly hunt down the violent man. |
I know that the LORD will maintain the cause of the afflicted And justice for the poor. | 12I know that the LORD will act on behalf of the tormented, providing justice for the needy. |
Surely the righteous will give thanks to Your name; The upright will dwell in Your presence. | 13Surely the righteous will give thanks to your name, while the upright live in your presence. |
