| 1Therefore, my beloved brethren whom I long to see, my joy and crown, in this way stand firm in the Lord, my beloved. | 1Therefore, my dear brothers whom I long for, my joy and my victor's crown, this is how you must stand firm in the Lord, dear friends. |
| 2I urge Euodia and I urge Syntyche to live in harmony in the Lord. | 2I urge Euodia and Syntyche to have the same attitude in the Lord. |
| 3Indeed, true companion, I ask you also to help these women who have shared my struggle in the cause of the gospel, together with Clement also and the rest of my fellow workers, whose names are in the book of life. | 3Yes, I also ask you, my true partner, to help these women. They have worked hard with me to advance the gospel, along with Clement and the rest of my fellow workers, whose names are in the Book of Life. |
| 4Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice! | 4Keep on rejoicing in the Lord at all times. I will say it again: Keep on rejoicing! |
| 5Let your gentle spirit be known to all men. The Lord is near. | 5Let your gracious attitude be known to all people. The Lord is near: |
| 6Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. | 6Never worry about anything. Instead, in every situation let your petitions be made known to God through prayers and requests, with thanksgiving. |
| 7And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. | 7Then God's peace, which goes far beyond anything we can imagine, will guard your hearts and minds in union with the Messiah Jesus. |
| 8Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things. | 8Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is fair, whatever is pure, whatever is acceptable, whatever is commendable, if there is anything of excellence and if there is anything praiseworthy—keep thinking about these things. |
| 9The things you have learned and received and heard and seen in me, practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you. | 9Likewise, keep practicing these things: what you have learned, received, heard, and seen in me. Then the God of peace will be with you. |
| 10But I rejoiced in the Lord greatly, that now at last you have revived your concern for me; indeed, you were concerned before, but you lacked opportunity. | 10Now I rejoice in the Lord greatly, because once again you have shown your concern for me. Of course, you were concerned for me but you did not have an opportunity to show it. |
| 11Not that I speak from want, for I have learned to be content in whatever circumstances I am. | 11I am not saying this because I am in any need, for I have learned to be content in whatever situation I am in. |
| 12I know how to get along with humble means, and I also know how to live in prosperity; in any and every circumstance I have learned the secret of being filled and going hungry, both of having abundance and suffering need. | 12I know how to be humble, and I know how to prosper. In each and every situation I have learned the secret of being full and of going hungry, of having too much and of having too little. |
| 13I can do all things through Him who strengthens me. | 13I can do all things through him who strengthens me. |
| 14Nevertheless, you have done well to share with me in my affliction. | 14Nevertheless, it was kind of you to share my troubles. |
| 15You yourselves also know, Philippians, that at the first preaching of the gospel, after I left Macedonia, no church shared with me in the matter of giving and receiving but you alone; | 15You Philippians also know that in the early days of the gospel, when I left Macedonia, no church participated with me in the matter of giving and receiving except for you. |
| 16for even in Thessalonica you sent a gift more than once for my needs. | 16Even while I was in Thessalonica, you provided for my needs not once, but twice. |
| 17Not that I seek the gift itself, but I seek for the profit which increases to your account. | 17It is not that I am looking for a gift. No, I want to see that you receive the fruit that increases to your benefit. |
| 18But I have received everything in full and have an abundance; I am amply supplied, having received from Epaphroditus what you have sent, a fragrant aroma, an acceptable sacrifice, well-pleasing to God. | 18I have been paid in full and have more than enough. I am fully supplied, now that I have received from Epaphroditus what you sent—a fragrant aroma, a sacrifice acceptable and pleasing to God. |
| 19And my God will supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus. | 19And my God will fully supply your every need according to his glorious riches in the Messiah Jesus. |
| 20Now to our God and Father be the glory forever and ever. Amen. | 20Glory belongs to our God and Father forever and ever! Amen. |
| 21Greet every saint in Christ Jesus. The brethren who are with me greet you. | 21Greet every saint who is in union with the Messiah Jesus. The brothers who are with me send their greetings to you. |
| 22All the saints greet you, especially those of Caesar's household. | 22All the saints, especially those of the emperor's household, greet you. |
| 23The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit. | 23May the grace of the Lord Jesus, the Messiah, be with your spirit! Amen. |
