Job 5
NASB Parallel HCSB [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
New American Standard Bible 1995Holman Christian Standard Bible
"Call now, is there anyone who will answer you? And to which of the holy ones will you turn?1Call out if you please. Will anyone answer you? Which of the holy ones will you turn to?
"For anger slays the foolish man, And jealousy kills the simple.2For anger kills a fool, and jealousy slays the gullible.
"I have seen the foolish taking root, And I cursed his abode immediately.3I have seen a fool taking root, but I immediately pronounced a curse on his home.
"His sons are far from safety, They are even oppressed in the gate, And there is no deliverer.4His children are far from safety. They are crushed at the city gate, with no one to rescue them.
"His harvest the hungry devour And take it to a place of thorns, And the schemer is eager for their wealth.5The hungry consume his harvest, even taking it out of the thorns. The thirsty pant for his children's wealth.
"For affliction does not come from the dust, Nor does trouble sprout from the ground,6For distress does not grow out of the soil, and trouble does not sprout from the ground.
For man is born for trouble, As sparks fly upward.7But mankind is born for trouble as surely as sparks fly upward.
"But as for me, I would seek God, And I would place my cause before God;8However, if I were you, I would appeal to God and would present my case to Him.
Who does great and unsearchable things, Wonders without number.9He does great and unsearchable things, wonders without number.
"He gives rain on the earth And sends water on the fields,10He gives rain to the earth and sends water to the fields.
So that He sets on high those who are lowly, And those who mourn are lifted to safety.11He sets the lowly on high, and mourners are lifted to safety.
"He frustrates the plotting of the shrewd, So that their hands cannot attain success.12He frustrates the schemes of the crafty so that they achieve no success.
"He captures the wise by their own shrewdness, And the advice of the cunning is quickly thwarted.13He traps the wise in their craftiness so that the plans of the deceptive are quickly brought to an end.
"By day they meet with darkness, And grope at noon as in the night.14They encounter darkness by day, and they grope at noon as if it were night.
"But He saves from the sword of their mouth, And the poor from the hand of the mighty.15He saves the needy from their sharp words and from the clutches of the powerful.
"So the helpless has hope, And unrighteousness must shut its mouth.16So the poor have hope, and injustice shuts its mouth.
"Behold, how happy is the man whom God reproves, So do not despise the discipline of the Almighty.17See how happy the man is God corrects; so do not reject the discipline of the Almighty.
"For He inflicts pain, and gives relief; He wounds, and His hands also heal.18For He crushes but also binds up; He strikes, but His hands also heal.
"From six troubles He will deliver you, Even in seven evil will not touch you.19He will rescue you from six calamities; no harm will touch you in seven.
"In famine He will redeem you from death, And in war from the power of the sword.20In famine He will redeem you from death, and in battle, from the power of the sword.
"You will be hidden from the scourge of the tongue, And you will not be afraid of violence when it comes.21You will be safe from slander and not fear destruction when it comes.
"You will laugh at violence and famine, And you will not be afraid of wild beasts.22You will laugh at destruction and hunger and not fear the animals of the earth.
"For you will be in league with the stones of the field, And the beasts of the field will be at peace with you.23For you will have a covenant with the stones of the field, and the wild animals will be at peace with you.
"You will know that your tent is secure, For you will visit your abode and fear no loss.24You will know that your tent is secure, and nothing will be missing when you inspect your home.
"You will know also that your descendants will be many, And your offspring as the grass of the earth.25You will also know that your offspring will be many and your descendants like the grass of the earth.
"You will come to the grave in full vigor, Like the stacking of grain in its season.26You will approach the grave in full vigor, as a stack of sheaves is gathered in its season.
"Behold this; we have investigated it, and so it is. Hear it, and know for yourself."27We have investigated this, and it is true! Hear it and understand it for yourself.
