King James Bible | New Living Translation |
In thee, O LORD, do I put my trust: let me never be put to confusion. | 1O LORD, I have come to you for protection; don’t let me be disgraced. |
Deliver me in thy righteousness, and cause me to escape: incline thine ear unto me, and save me. | 2Save me and rescue me, for you do what is right. Turn your ear to listen to me, and set me free. |
Be thou my strong habitation, whereunto I may continually resort: thou hast given commandment to save me; for thou art my rock and my fortress. | 3Be my rock of safety where I can always hide. Give the order to save me, for you are my rock and my fortress. |
Deliver me, O my God, out of the hand of the wicked, out of the hand of the unrighteous and cruel man. | 4My God, rescue me from the power of the wicked, from the clutches of cruel oppressors. |
For thou art my hope, O Lord GOD: thou art my trust from my youth. | 5O Lord, you alone are my hope. I’ve trusted you, O LORD, from childhood. |
By thee have I been holden up from the womb: thou art he that took me out of my mother's bowels: my praise shall be continually of thee. | 6Yes, you have been with me from birth; from my mother’s womb you have cared for me. No wonder I am always praising you! |
I am as a wonder unto many; but thou art my strong refuge. | 7My life is an example to many, because you have been my strength and protection. |
Let my mouth be filled with thy praise and with thy honour all the day. | 8That is why I can never stop praising you; I declare your glory all day long. |
Cast me not off in the time of old age; forsake me not when my strength faileth. | 9And now, in my old age, don’t set me aside. Don’t abandon me when my strength is failing. |
For mine enemies speak against me; and they that lay wait for my soul take counsel together, | 10For my enemies are whispering against me. They are plotting together to kill me. |
Saying, God hath forsaken him: persecute and take him; for there is none to deliver him. | 11They say, “God has abandoned him. Let’s go and get him, for no one will help him now.” |
O God, be not far from me: O my God, make haste for my help. | 12O God, don’t stay away. My God, please hurry to help me. |
Let them be confounded and consumed that are adversaries to my soul; let them be covered with reproach and dishonour that seek my hurt. | 13Bring disgrace and destruction on my accusers. Humiliate and shame those who want to harm me. |
But I will hope continually, and will yet praise thee more and more. | 14But I will keep on hoping for your help; I will praise you more and more. |
My mouth shall shew forth thy righteousness and thy salvation all the day; for I know not the numbers thereof. | 15I will tell everyone about your righteousness. All day long I will proclaim your saving power, though I am not skilled with words. |
I will go in the strength of the Lord GOD: I will make mention of thy righteousness, even of thine only. | 16I will praise your mighty deeds, O Sovereign LORD. I will tell everyone that you alone are just. |
O God, thou hast taught me from my youth: and hitherto have I declared thy wondrous works. | 17O God, you have taught me from my earliest childhood, and I constantly tell others about the wonderful things you do. |
Now also when I am old and grayheaded, O God, forsake me not; until I have shewed thy strength unto this generation, and thy power to every one that is to come. | 18Now that I am old and gray, do not abandon me, O God. Let me proclaim your power to this new generation, your mighty miracles to all who come after me. |
Thy righteousness also, O God, is very high, who hast done great things: O God, who is like unto thee! | 19Your righteousness, O God, reaches to the highest heavens. You have done such wonderful things. Who can compare with you, O God? |
Thou, which hast shewed me great and sore troubles, shalt quicken me again, and shalt bring me up again from the depths of the earth. | 20You have allowed me to suffer much hardship, but you will restore me to life again and lift me up from the depths of the earth. |
Thou shalt increase my greatness, and comfort me on every side. | 21You will restore me to even greater honor and comfort me once again. |
I will also praise thee with the psaltery, even thy truth, O my God: unto thee will I sing with the harp, O thou Holy One of Israel. | 22Then I will praise you with music on the harp, because you are faithful to your promises, O my God. I will sing praises to you with a lyre, O Holy One of Israel. |
My lips shall greatly rejoice when I sing unto thee; and my soul, which thou hast redeemed. | 23I will shout for joy and sing your praises, for you have ransomed me. |
My tongue also shall talk of thy righteousness all the day long: for they are confounded, for they are brought unto shame, that seek my hurt. | 24I will tell about your righteous deeds all day long, for everyone who tried to hurt me has been shamed and humiliated. |
