King James Bible | New Living Translation |
To the chief Musician upon Mahalath, Maschil, A Psalm of David. The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. Corrupt are they, and have done abominable iniquity: there is none that doeth good. | 1Only fools say in their hearts, “There is no God.” They are corrupt, and their actions are evil; not one of them does good! |
God looked down from heaven upon the children of men, to see if there were any that did understand, that did seek God. | 2God looks down from heaven on the entire human race; he looks to see if anyone is truly wise, if anyone seeks God. |
Every one of them is gone back: they are altogether become filthy; there is none that doeth good, no, not one. | 3But no, all have turned away; all have become corrupt. No one does good, not a single one! |
Have the workers of iniquity no knowledge? who eat up my people as they eat bread: they have not called upon God. | 4Will those who do evil never learn? They eat up my people like bread and wouldn’t think of praying to God. |
There were they in great fear, where no fear was: for God hath scattered the bones of him that encampeth against thee: thou hast put them to shame, because God hath despised them. | 5Terror will grip them, terror like they have never known before. God will scatter the bones of your enemies. You will put them to shame, for God has rejected them. |
Oh that the salvation of Israel were come out of Zion! When God bringeth back the captivity of his people, Jacob shall rejoice, and Israel shall be glad. | 6Who will come from Mount Zion to rescue Israel? When God restores his people, Jacob will shout with joy, and Israel will rejoice. |
