King James Bible | New Living Translation |
To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David. Deliver me, O LORD, from the evil man: preserve me from the violent man; | 1O LORD, rescue me from evil people. Protect me from those who are violent, |
Which imagine mischiefs in their heart; continually are they gathered together for war. | 2those who plot evil in their hearts and stir up trouble all day long. |
They have sharpened their tongues like a serpent; adders' poison is under their lips. Selah. | 3Their tongues sting like a snake; the venom of a viper drips from their lips. Interlude |
Keep me, O LORD, from the hands of the wicked; preserve me from the violent man; who have purposed to overthrow my goings. | 4O LORD, keep me out of the hands of the wicked. Protect me from those who are violent, for they are plotting against me. |
The proud have hid a snare for me, and cords; they have spread a net by the wayside; they have set gins for me. Selah. | 5The proud have set a trap to catch me; they have stretched out a net; they have placed traps all along the way. Interlude |
I said unto the LORD, Thou art my God: hear the voice of my supplications, O LORD. | 6I said to the LORD, “You are my God!” Listen, O LORD, to my cries for mercy! |
O GOD the Lord, the strength of my salvation, thou hast covered my head in the day of battle. | 7O Sovereign LORD, the strong one who rescued me, you protected me on the day of battle. |
Grant not, O LORD, the desires of the wicked: further not his wicked device; lest they exalt themselves. Selah. | 8LORD, do not let evil people have their way. Do not let their evil schemes succeed, or they will become proud. Interlude |
As for the head of those that compass me about, let the mischief of their own lips cover them. | 9Let my enemies be destroyed by the very evil they have planned for me. |
Let burning coals fall upon them: let them be cast into the fire; into deep pits, that they rise not up again. | 10Let burning coals fall down on their heads. Let them be thrown into the fire or into watery pits from which they can’t escape. |
Let not an evil speaker be established in the earth: evil shall hunt the violent man to overthrow him. | 11Don’t let liars prosper here in our land. Cause great disasters to fall on the violent. |
I know that the LORD will maintain the cause of the afflicted, and the right of the poor. | 12But I know the LORD will help those they persecute; he will give justice to the poor. |
Surely the righteous shall give thanks unto thy name: the upright shall dwell in thy presence. | 13Surely righteous people are praising your name; the godly will live in your presence. |
