| 1I charge thee therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom; | 1I solemnly charge you before God and Christ Jesus, who is going to judge the living and the dead, and because of His appearing and His kingdom: |
| 2Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine. | 2Proclaim the message; persist in it whether convenient or not; rebuke, correct, and encourage with great patience and teaching. |
| 3For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; | 3For the time will come when they will not tolerate sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, will multiply teachers for themselves because they have an itch to hear something new. |
| 4And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables. | 4They will turn away from hearing the truth and will turn aside to myths. |
| 5But watch thou in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, make full proof of thy ministry. | 5But as for you, be serious about everything, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry. |
