King James Bible | English Standard Version |
Behold, thou art fair, my love; behold, thou art fair; thou hast doves' eyes within thy locks: thy hair is as a flock of goats, that appear from mount Gilead. | 1Behold, you are beautiful, my love, behold, you are beautiful! Your eyes are doves behind your veil. Your hair is like a flock of goats leaping down the slopes of Gilead. |
Thy teeth are like a flock of sheep that are even shorn, which came up from the washing; whereof every one bear twins, and none is barren among them. | 2Your teeth are like a flock of shorn ewes that have come up from the washing, all of which bear twins, and not one among them has lost its young. |
Thy lips are like a thread of scarlet, and thy speech is comely: thy temples are like a piece of a pomegranate within thy locks. | 3Your lips are like a scarlet thread, and your mouth is lovely. Your cheeks are like halves of a pomegranate behind your veil. |
Thy neck is like the tower of David builded for an armoury, whereon there hang a thousand bucklers, all shields of mighty men. | 4Your neck is like the tower of David, built in rows of stone; on it hang a thousand shields, all of them shields of warriors. |
Thy two breasts are like two young roes that are twins, which feed among the lilies. | 5Your two breasts are like two fawns, twins of a gazelle, that graze among the lilies. |
Until the day break, and the shadows flee away, I will get me to the mountain of myrrh, and to the hill of frankincense. | 6Until the day breathes and the shadows flee, I will go away to the mountain of myrrh and the hill of frankincense. |
Thou art all fair, my love; there is no spot in thee. | 7You are altogether beautiful, my love; there is no flaw in you. |
Come with me from Lebanon, my spouse, with me from Lebanon: look from the top of Amana, from the top of Shenir and Hermon, from the lions' dens, from the mountains of the leopards. | 8Come with me from Lebanon, my bride; come with me from Lebanon. Depart from the peak of Amana, from the peak of Senir and Hermon, from the dens of lions, from the mountains of leopards. |
Thou hast ravished my heart, my sister, my spouse; thou hast ravished my heart with one of thine eyes, with one chain of thy neck. | 9You have captivated my heart, my sister, my bride; you have captivated my heart with one glance of your eyes, with one jewel of your necklace. |
How fair is thy love, my sister, my spouse! how much better is thy love than wine! and the smell of thine ointments than all spices! | 10How beautiful is your love, my sister, my bride! How much better is your love than wine, and the fragrance of your oils than any spice! |
Thy lips, O my spouse, drop as the honeycomb: honey and milk are under thy tongue; and the smell of thy garments is like the smell of Lebanon. | 11Your lips drip nectar, my bride; honey and milk are under your tongue; the fragrance of your garments is like the fragrance of Lebanon. |
A garden inclosed is my sister, my spouse; a spring shut up, a fountain sealed. | 12A garden locked is my sister, my bride, a spring locked, a fountain sealed. |
Thy plants are an orchard of pomegranates, with pleasant fruits; camphire, with spikenard, | 13Your shoots are an orchard of pomegranates with all choicest fruits, henna with nard, |
Spikenard and saffron; calamus and cinnamon, with all trees of frankincense; myrrh and aloes, with all the chief spices: | 14nard and saffron, calamus and cinnamon, with all trees of frankincense, myrrh and aloes, with all choice spices— |
A fountain of gardens, a well of living waters, and streams from Lebanon. | 15a garden fountain, a well of living water, and flowing streams from Lebanon. |
Awake, O north wind; and come, thou south; blow upon my garden, that the spices thereof may flow out. Let my beloved come into his garden, and eat his pleasant fruits. | 16Awake, O north wind, and come, O south wind! Blow upon my garden, let its spices flow. Let my beloved come to his garden, and eat its choicest fruits. |
