1I take refuge in the LORD. So how can you say to me, "Flee like a bird to the mountains."? | 1For the music director; by David. In the LORD I have taken shelter. How can you say to me, "Flee to a mountain like a bird! |
2Look, the wicked have bent their bow and placed their arrow on the string, to shoot from the darkness at the upright in heart. | 2For look, the wicked prepare their bows, they put their arrows on the strings, to shoot in the darkness at the morally upright. |
3When the foundations are destroyed, what can the righteous do? | 3When the foundations are destroyed, what can the godly accomplish?" |
4The LORD is in his holy Temple; the LORD's throne is in the heavens. His eyes see, his glance examines humanity. | 4The LORD is in his holy temple; the LORD's throne is in heaven. His eyes watch; his eyes examine all people. |
5The LORD examines the righteous, but the wicked and those who love violence, he hates. | 5The LORD approves of the godly, but he hates the wicked and those who love to do violence. |
6He rains on the wicked burning coals and sulfur; a scorching wind is their destiny. | 6May the LORD rain down burning coals and brimstone on the wicked! A whirlwind is what they deserve! |
7Indeed, the LORD is righteous; he loves righteousness; the upright will see him face-to-face. | 7Certainly the LORD is just; he rewards godly deeds; the upright will experience his favor. |
