| 1God, having spoken in former times in fragmentary and varied fashion to our forefathers by the prophets, | 1After God spoke long ago in various portions and in various ways to our ancestors through the prophets, |
| 2has in these last days spoken to us by a Son whom he appointed to be the heir of everything and through whom he also made the universe. | 2in these last days he has spoken to us in a son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom he created the world. |
| 3He is the reflection of God's glory and the exact likeness of his being, and he holds everything together by his powerful word. After he had provided a cleansing from sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Highest Majesty | 3The Son is the radiance of his glory and the representation of his essence, and he sustains all things by his powerful word, and so when he had accomplished cleansing for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high. |
| 4and became as much superior to the angels as the name he has inherited is better than theirs. | 4Thus he became so far better than the angels as he has inherited a name superior to theirs. |
| 5For to which of the angels did God ever say, "You are my Son. Today I have become your Father"? Or again, "I will be his Father, and he will be my Son"? | 5For to which of the angels did God ever say, "You are my son! Today I have fathered you"? And in another place he says, "I will be his father and he will be my son." |

| 9You have loved righteousness and hated wickedness. That is why God, your God, anointed you rather than your companions with the oil of gladness." | 9You have loved righteousness and hated lawlessness. So God, your God, has anointed you over your companions with the oil of rejoicing." |
| 10And, "In the beginning, Lord, you laid the foundation of the earth, and the heavens are the work of your hands. | 10And, "You founded the earth in the beginning, Lord, and the heavens are the works of your hands. |
| 11They will come to an end, but you will remain forever. They will all wear out like clothes. | 11They will perish, but you continue. And they will all grow old like a garment, |
| 12You will roll them up like a robe, and they will be changed like clothes. But you remain the same, and your life will never end." | 12and like a robe you will fold them up and like a garment they will be changed, but you are the same and your years will never run out." |

| 14All of them are spirits on a divine mission, sent to serve those who are about to inherit salvation, aren't they? | 14Are they not all ministering spirits, sent out to serve those who will inherit salvation? |
