God, the LORD, has spoken. He has summoned the earth from the rising of the sun to its setting place. | 1The Mighty One, God, the LORD, speaks; he summons the earth from the rising of the sun to its setting. |
From Zion, the perfection of beauty, God has shined forth. | 2From Zion, the perfection of beauty, God appears in radiance. |
Our God has appeared and he has not been silent; a devouring fire blazed before him, and a mighty storm swirled around him. | 3Our God is coming; he will not be silent! Devouring fire precedes him, and a storm rages around him. |
He summoned the heavens above and the earth below, to sit in judgment on his people. | 4On high, he summons heaven and earth in order to judge his people: |
"Assemble before me, my saints, who have entered into my covenant by sacrifice." | 5"Gather my faithful ones to me, those who made a covenant with me by sacrifice." |
The heavens revealed his justice, for God is himself the judge. Interlude | 6The heavens proclaim his righteousness, for God is the Judge. Selah |
"Listen, my people, for I am making a pronouncement: Israel, I, God, your God, am testifying against you. | 7"Listen, my people, and I will speak; I will testify against you, Israel. I am God, your God. |
I do not rebuke you because of your sacrifices; indeed, your burnt offerings are continuously before me. | 8I do not rebuke you for your sacrifices or for your burnt offerings, which are continually before me. |
I will no longer accept a sacrificial bull from your household; nor goats from your pens. | 9I will not take a bull from your household or male goats from your pens, |
Indeed, every animal of the forest is mine, even the cattle on a thousand hills. | 10for every animal of the forest is mine, the cattle on a thousand hills. |
I know all the birds in the mountains; indeed, everything that moves in the field is mine. | 11I know every bird of the mountains, and the creatures of the field are mine. |
"If I were hungry, I would not tell you; for the world is mine along with everything in it. | 12If I were hungry, I would not tell you, for the world and everything in it is mine. |
Why should I eat the flesh of oxen or drink the blood of goats? | 13Do I eat the flesh of bulls or drink the blood of goats? |
Offer to God a thanksgiving praise; pay your vows to the Most High. | 14Sacrifice a thank offering to God, and pay your vows to the Most High. |
Call on me in the day of distress; I will deliver you, and you will glorify me." | 15Call on me in a day of trouble; I will rescue you, and you will honor me." |
As for the wicked, God says, "How dare you recite my statutes or speak about my covenant with your lips! | 16But God says to the wicked: "What right do you have to recite my statutes and to take my covenant on your lips? |
You hate instruction and toss my words behind you. | 17You hate instruction and fling my words behind you. |
When you see a thief, you befriend him, and you keep company with adulterers. | 18When you see a thief, you make friends with him, and you associate with adulterers. |
You give your mouth free reign for evil, and your tongue devises deceit. | 19You unleash your mouth for evil and harness your tongue for deceit. |
You sit and speak against your brother; you slander your own mother's son. | 20You sit, maligning your brother, slandering your mother's son. |
These things you did, and I kept silent, because you assumed that I was like you. But now I am going to rebuke you, and I will set forth my case before your very own eyes." | 21You have done these things, and I kept silent; you thought I was just like you. But I will rebuke you and lay out the case before you. |
Consider this, you who have forgotten God— Otherwise, I will tear you in pieces and there will be no deliverer: | 22"Understand this, you who forget God, or I will tear you apart, and there will be no one to rescue you. |
Whoever offers a sacrifice of thanksgiving glorifies me, and I will reveal the salvation of God to whomever continues in my way." | 23Whoever sacrifices a thank offering honors me, and whoever orders his conduct, I will show him the salvation of God." |
