Corinthians 13
HCSB Parallel NLT [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT GRK]
Holman Christian Standard BibleNew Living Translation
If I speak human or angelic languages but do not have love, I am a sounding gong or a clanging cymbal. 1If I could speak all the languages of earth and of angels, but didn’t love others, I would only be a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal.
If I have the gift of prophecy and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith so that I can move mountains but do not have love, I am nothing. 2If I had the gift of prophecy, and if I understood all of God’s secret plans and possessed all knowledge, and if I had such faith that I could move mountains, but didn’t love others, I would be nothing.
And if I donate all my goods to feed the poor, and if I give my body in order to boast but do not have love, I gain nothing. 3If I gave everything I have to the poor and even sacrificed my body, I could boast about it; but if I didn’t love others, I would have gained nothing.
Love is patient, love is kind. Love does not envy, is not boastful, is not conceited, 4Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud
does not act improperly, is not selfish, is not provoked, and does not keep a record of wrongs. 5or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged.
Love finds no joy in unrighteousness but rejoices in the truth. 6It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out.
It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. 7Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance.
Love never ends. But as for prophecies, they will come to an end; as for languages, they will cease; as for knowledge, it will come to an end. 8Prophecy and speaking in unknown languages and special knowledge will become useless. But love will last forever!
For we know in part, and we prophesy in part. 9Now our knowledge is partial and incomplete, and even the gift of prophecy reveals only part of the whole picture!
But when the perfect comes, the partial will come to an end. 10But when the time of perfection comes, these partial things will become useless.
When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put aside childish things. 11When I was a child, I spoke and thought and reasoned as a child. But when I grew up, I put away childish things.
For now we see indistinctly, as in a mirror, but then face to face. Now I know in part, but then I will know fully, as I am fully known. 12Now we see things imperfectly, like puzzling reflections in a mirror, but then we will see everything with perfect clarity. All that I know now is partial and incomplete, but then I will know everything completely, just as God now knows me completely.
Now these three remain: faith, hope, and love. But the greatest of these is love. 13Three things will last forever—faith, hope, and love—and the greatest of these is love.
