Job 17
HCSB Parallel NASB [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
Holman Christian Standard BibleNew American Standard Bible 1995
My spirit is broken. My days are extinguished. A graveyard awaits me. 1"My spirit is broken, my days are extinguished, The grave is ready for me.
Surely mockers surround me and my eyes must gaze at their rebellion. 2"Surely mockers are with me, And my eye gazes on their provocation.
Make arrangements! Put up security for me. Who else will be my sponsor? 3"Lay down, now, a pledge for me with Yourself; Who is there that will be my guarantor?
You have closed their minds to understanding, therefore You will not honor them. 4"For You have kept their heart from understanding, Therefore You will not exalt them.
If a man informs on his friends for a price, the eyes of his children will fail. 5"He who informs against friends for a share of the spoil, The eyes of his children also will languish.
He has made me an object of scorn to the people; I have become a man people spit at. 6"But He has made me a byword of the people, And I am one at whom men spit.
My eyes have grown dim from grief, and my whole body has become but a shadow. 7"My eye has also grown dim because of grief, And all my members are as a shadow.
The upright are appalled at this, and the innocent are roused against the godless. 8"The upright will be appalled at this, And the innocent will stir up himself against the godless.
Yet the righteous person will hold to his way, and the one whose hands are clean will grow stronger. 9"Nevertheless the righteous will hold to his way, And he who has clean hands will grow stronger and stronger.
But come back and try again, all of you. I will not find a wise man among you. 10"But come again all of you now, For I do not find a wise man among you.
My days have slipped by; my plans have been ruined, even the things dear to my heart. 11"My days are past, my plans are torn apart, Even the wishes of my heart.
They turned night into day and made light seem near in the face of darkness. 12"They make night into day, saying, 'The light is near,' in the presence of darkness.
If I await Sheol as my home, spread out my bed in darkness, 13"If I look for Sheol as my home, I make my bed in the darkness;
and say to corruption: You are my father, and to the maggot: My mother or my sister, 14If I call to the pit, 'You are my father'; To the worm, 'my mother and my sister';
where then is my hope? Who can see any hope for me? 15Where now is my hope? And who regards my hope?
Will it go down to the gates of Sheol, or will we descend together to the dust? 16"Will it go down with me to Sheol? Shall we together go down into the dust?"
