1These are the family records of Noah's sons, Shem, Ham, and Japheth. They also had sons after the flood. | 1Now these are the records of the generations of Shem, Ham, and Japheth, the sons of Noah; and sons were born to them after the flood. |
2Japheth's sons: Gomer, Magog, Madai, Javan, Tubal, Meshech, and Tiras. | 2The sons of Japheth were Gomer and Magog and Madai and Javan and Tubal and Meshech and Tiras. |
3Gomer's sons: Ashkenaz, Riphath, and Togarmah. | 3The sons of Gomer were Ashkenaz and Riphath and Togarmah. |
4And Javan's sons: Elishah, Tarshish, Kittim, and Dodanim. | 4The sons of Javan were Elishah and Tarshish, Kittim and Dodanim. |
5The coastland peoples spread out into their lands. These are Japheth's sons by their clans, in their nations. Each group had its own language. | 5From these the coastlands of the nations were separated into their lands, every one according to his language, according to their families, into their nations. |
6Ham's sons: Cush, Egypt, Put, and Canaan. | 6The sons of Ham were Cush and Mizraim and Put and Canaan. |
7Cush's sons: Seba, Havilah, Sabtah, Raamah, and Sabteca. And Raamah's sons: Sheba and Dedan. | 7The sons of Cush were Seba and Havilah and Sabtah and Raamah and Sabteca; and the sons of Raamah were Sheba and Dedan. |
8Cush fathered Nimrod, who was the first powerful man on earth. | 8Now Cush became the father of Nimrod; he became a mighty one on the earth. |
9He was a powerful hunter in the sight of the LORD. That is why it is said, "Like Nimrod, a powerful hunter in the sight of the LORD." | 9He was a mighty hunter before the LORD; therefore it is said, "Like Nimrod a mighty hunter before the LORD." |
10His kingdom started with Babylon, Erech, Accad, and Calneh, in the land of Shinar. | 10The beginning of his kingdom was Babel and Erech and Accad and Calneh, in the land of Shinar. |
11From that land he went to Assyria and built Nineveh, Rehoboth-ir, Calah, | 11From that land he went forth into Assyria, and built Nineveh and Rehoboth-Ir and Calah, |
12and Resen, between Nineveh and the great city Calah. | 12and Resen between Nineveh and Calah; that is the great city. |
13Mizraim fathered Ludim, Anamim, Lehabim, Naphtuhim, | 13Mizraim became the father of Ludim and Anamim and Lehabim and Naphtuhim |
14Pathrusim, Casluhim (the Philistines came from them), and Caphtorim. | 14and Pathrusim and Casluhim (from which came the Philistines) and Caphtorim. |
15Canaan fathered Sidon his firstborn, then Heth, | 15Canaan became the father of Sidon, his firstborn, and Heth |
16the Jebusites, the Amorites, the Girgashites, | 16and the Jebusite and the Amorite and the Girgashite |
17the Hivites, the Arkites, the Sinites, | 17and the Hivite and the Arkite and the Sinite |
18the Arvadites, the Zemarites, and the Hamathites. Afterward the Canaanite clans scattered. | 18and the Arvadite and the Zemarite and the Hamathite; and afterward the families of the Canaanite were spread abroad. |
19The Canaanite border went from Sidon going toward Gerar as far as Gaza, and going toward Sodom, Gomorrah, Admah, and Zeboiim as far as Lasha. | 19The territory of the Canaanite extended from Sidon as you go toward Gerar, as far as Gaza; as you go toward Sodom and Gomorrah and Admah and Zeboiim, as far as Lasha. |
20These are Ham's sons, by their clans, according to their languages, in their own lands and their nations. | 20These are the sons of Ham, according to their families, according to their languages, by their lands, by their nations. |
21And Shem, Japheth's older brother, also had sons. Shem was the father of all the sons of Eber. | 21Also to Shem, the father of all the children of Eber, and the older brother of Japheth, children were born. |
22Shem's sons were Elam, Asshur, Arpachshad, Lud, and Aram. | 22The sons of Shem were Elam and Asshur and Arpachshad and Lud and Aram. |
23Aram's sons: Uz, Hul, Gether, and Mash. | 23The sons of Aram were Uz and Hul and Gether and Mash. |
24Arpachshad fathered Shelah, and Shelah fathered Eber. | 24Arpachshad became the father of Shelah; and Shelah became the father of Eber. |
25Eber had two sons. One was named Peleg, for during his days the earth was divided; his brother was named Joktan. | 25Two sons were born to Eber; the name of the one was Peleg, for in his days the earth was divided; and his brother's name was Joktan. |
26And Joktan fathered Almodad, Sheleph, Hazarmaveth, Jerah, | 26Joktan became the father of Almodad and Sheleph and Hazarmaveth and Jerah |
27Hadoram, Uzal, Diklah, | 27and Hadoram and Uzal and Diklah |
28Obal, Abimael, Sheba, | 28and Obal and Abimael and Sheba |
29Ophir, Havilah, and Jobab. All these were Joktan's sons. | 29and Ophir and Havilah and Jobab; all these were the sons of Joktan. |
30Their settlements extended from Mesha to Sephar, the eastern hill country. | 30Now their settlement extended from Mesha as you go toward Sephar, the hill country of the east. |
31These are Shem's sons by their clans, according to their languages, in their lands and their nations. | 31These are the sons of Shem, according to their families, according to their languages, by their lands, according to their nations. |
32These are the clans of Noah's sons, according to their family records, in their nations. The nations on earth spread out from these after the flood. | 32These are the families of the sons of Noah, according to their genealogies, by their nations; and out of these the nations were separated on the earth after the flood. |
