Holman Christian Standard Bible | King James Bible |
Long ago God spoke to the fathers by the prophets at different times and in different ways. | 1God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, |
In these last days, He has spoken to us by His Son. God has appointed Him heir of all things and made the universe through Him. | 2Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds; |
The Son is the radiance of God's glory and the exact expression of His nature, sustaining all things by His powerful word. After making purification for sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high. | 3Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high; |
So He became higher in rank than the angels, just as the name He inherited is superior to theirs. | 4Being made so much better than the angels, as he hath by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they. |
For to which of the angels did He ever say, You are My Son; today I have become Your Father, or again, I will be His Father, and He will be My Son? | 5For unto which of the angels said he at any time, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee? And again, I will be to him a Father, and he shall be to me a Son? |
When He again brings His firstborn into the world, He says, And all God's angels must worship Him. | 6And again, when he bringeth in the firstbegotten into the world, he saith, And let all the angels of God worship him. |
And about the angels He says: He makes His angels winds, and His servants a fiery flame, | 7And of the angels he saith, Who maketh his angels spirits, and his ministers a flame of fire. |
but to the Son: Your throne, God, is forever and ever, and the scepter of Your kingdom is a scepter of justice. | 8But unto the Son he saith, Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: a sceptre of righteousness is the sceptre of thy kingdom. |
You have loved righteousness and hated lawlessness; this is why God, Your God, has anointed You with the oil of joy rather than Your companions. | 9Thou hast loved righteousness, and hated iniquity; therefore God, even thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows. |
And: In the beginning, Lord, You established the earth, and the heavens are the works of Your hands; | 10And, Thou, Lord, in the beginning hast laid the foundation of the earth; and the heavens are the works of thine hands: |
they will perish, but You remain. They will all wear out like clothing; | 11They shall perish; but thou remainest; and they all shall wax old as doth a garment; |
You will roll them up like a cloak, and they will be changed like a robe. But You are the same, and Your years will never end. | 12And as a vesture shalt thou fold them up, and they shall be changed: but thou art the same, and thy years shall not fail. |
Now to which of the angels has He ever said: Sit at My right hand until I make Your enemies Your footstool? | 13But to which of the angels said he at any time, Sit on my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool? |
Are they not all ministering spirits sent out to serve those who are going to inherit salvation? | 14Are they not all ministering spirits, sent forth to minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation? |
