English Standard Version | NET Bible |
To you, O LORD, I call; my rock, be not deaf to me, lest, if you be silent to me, I become like those who go down to the pit. | 1By David. To you, O LORD, I cry out! My protector, do not ignore me! If you do not respond to me, I will join those who are descending into the grave. |
Hear the voice of my pleas for mercy, when I cry to you for help, when I lift up my hands toward your most holy sanctuary. | 2Hear my plea for mercy when I cry out to you for help, when I lift my hands toward your holy temple! |
Do not drag me off with the wicked, with the workers of evil, who speak peace with their neighbors while evil is in their hearts. | 3Do not drag me away with evil men, with those who behave wickedly, who talk so friendly to their neighbors, while they plan to harm them! |
Give to them according to their work and according to the evil of their deeds; give to them according to the work of their hands; render them their due reward. | 4Pay them back for their evil deeds! Pay them back for what they do! Punish them! |
Because they do not regard the works of the LORD or the work of his hands, he will tear them down and build them up no more. | 5For they do not understand the LORD's actions, or the way he carries out justice. The LORD will permanently demolish them. |
Blessed be the LORD! For he has heard the voice of my pleas for mercy. | 6The LORD deserves praise, for he has heard my plea for mercy! |
The LORD is my strength and my shield; in him my heart trusts, and I am helped; my heart exults, and with my song I give thanks to him. | 7The LORD strengthens and protects me; I trust in him with all my heart. I am rescued and my heart is full of joy; I will sing to him in gratitude. |
The LORD is the strength of his people; he is the saving refuge of his anointed. | 8The LORD strengthens his people; he protects and delivers his chosen king. |
Oh, save your people and bless your heritage! Be their shepherd and carry them forever. | 9Deliver your people! Empower the nation that belongs to you! Care for them like a shepherd and carry them in your arms at all times! |
