English Standard Version | King James Bible |
He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow of the Almighty. | 1He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. |
I will say to the LORD, “My refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.” | 2I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust. |
For he will deliver you from the snare of the fowler and from the deadly pestilence. | 3Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence. |
He will cover you with his pinions, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness is a shield and buckler. | 4He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler. |
You will not fear the terror of the night, nor the arrow that flies by day, | 5Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day; |
nor the pestilence that stalks in darkness, nor the destruction that wastes at noonday. | 6Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday. |
A thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand, but it will not come near you. | 7A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee. |
You will only look with your eyes and see the recompense of the wicked. | 8Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked. |
Because you have made the LORD your dwelling place— the Most High, who is my refuge— | 9Because thou hast made the LORD, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation; |
no evil shall be allowed to befall you, no plague come near your tent. | 10There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling. |
For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways. | 11For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways. |
On their hands they will bear you up, lest you strike your foot against a stone. | 12They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone. |
You will tread on the lion and the adder; the young lion and the serpent you will trample underfoot. | 13Thou shalt tread upon the lion and adder: the young lion and the dragon shalt thou trample under feet. |
“Because he holds fast to me in love, I will deliver him; I will protect him, because he knows my name. | 14Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name. |
When he calls to me, I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will rescue him and honor him. | 15He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him. |
With long life I will satisfy him and show him my salvation.” | 16With long life will I satisfy him, and shew him my salvation. |
