The word that Isaiah the son of Amoz saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem.1The message that Amoz's son Isaiah received concerning Judah and Jerusalem:
It shall come to pass in the latter days that the mountain of the house of the LORD shall be established as the highest of the mountains, and shall be lifted up above the hills; and all the nations shall flow to it,2"It will come about in the last days that the mountain that is the LORD's Temple will be established as the highest of mountains, and will be raised above the hills; all the nations will stream to it.
and many peoples shall come, and say: “Come, let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, to the house of the God of Jacob, that he may teach us his ways and that we may walk in his paths.” For out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem.3Many groups of people will come, commenting, "Come! Let's go up to the Temple of the God of Jacob, that they may teach us his ways. Then let's walk in his paths." "Instruction will proceed from Zion, and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem.
He shall judge between the nations, and shall decide disputes for many peoples; and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruning hooks; nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war anymore.4He will judge between the nations, and will render verdicts for the benefit of many. "They will beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruning hooks; nations will not raise swords against nations, and they will not learn warfare anymore.
O house of Jacob, come, let us walk in the light of the LORD.5"You house of Jacob! Come! Let's live in the LORD's light.
For you have rejected your people, the house of Jacob, because they are full of things from the east and of fortune-tellers like the Philistines, and they strike hands with the children of foreigners.6For you have rejected your people, the house of Jacob, because they are filled with practices learned from the East and they are fortune-tellers like the Philistines. They cut deals with foreigners.
Their land is filled with silver and gold, and there is no end to their treasures; their land is filled with horses, and there is no end to their chariots.7Their land is filled with silver and gold, and there is no end to their treasures; their land is filled with horses, and there is no end to their chariots.
Their land is filled with idols; they bow down to the work of their hands, to what their own fingers have made.8Their land is filled with idols; they bow down to the work of their hands, to what their own fingers have made.
So man is humbled, and each one is brought low— do not forgive them!9"So mankind is humbled, each human being is brought low, and you won't forgive."
Enter into the rock and hide in the dust from before the terror of the LORD, and from the splendor of his majesty.10 "Go into the rocks! Hide in the dust to escape the terror of the LORD and to escape the glory of his majesty!
The haughty looks of man shall be brought low, and the lofty pride of men shall be humbled, and the LORD alone will be exalted in that day.11The haughty looks of mankind will be brought low, the lofty pride of human beings will be humbled, and the LORD alone will be exalted at that time.
For the LORD of hosts has a day against all that is proud and lofty, against all that is lifted up—and it shall be brought low;12"For the LORD of the Heavenly Armies has reserved a time to oppose all who are proud and haughty, and the self-exalting— they will be humbled.
against all the cedars of Lebanon, lofty and lifted up; and against all the oaks of Bashan;13He will take his stand against all the cedars of Lebanon, against the proud and self-exalting; and against all the oaks of Bashan;
against all the lofty mountains, and against all the uplifted hills;14against all the high mountains, and against all the lofty hills;
against every high tower, and against every fortified wall;15against every high tower, and against every fortified wall;
against all the ships of Tarshish, and against all the beautiful craft.16against all the ships from Tarshish, and against all their impressive watercraft.
And the haughtiness of man shall be humbled, and the lofty pride of men shall be brought low, and the LORD alone will be exalted in that day.17"Humanity's haughtiness will be humbled, male arrogance will be brought low, and the LORD alone will be exalted in that day.
And the idols shall utterly pass away.18Their idols will utterly vanish.
And people shall enter the caves of the rocks and the holes of the ground, from before the terror of the LORD, and from the splendor of his majesty, when he rises to terrify the earth.19"They will enter caverns in the rocks and holes in the ground to escape the presence of the terror of the LORD, to escape the splendor of his majesty when he arises to terrify the earth.
In that day mankind will cast away their idols of silver and their idols of gold, which they made for themselves to worship, to the moles and to the bats,20At that time, mankind will throw their silver and gold idols that their fingers have made as objects of worship to the moles and to the bats.
to enter the caverns of the rocks and the clefts of the cliffs, from before the terror of the LORD, and from the splendor of his majesty, when he rises to terrify the earth.21They will enter caverns in the rocks and clefts in the cliffs, to escape the terror of the LORD and to escape the splendor of his majesty, when he arises to terrorize the earth.
Stop regarding man in whose nostrils is breath, for of what account is he?22"Stop trusting in human beings, whose life breath is in their nostrils, for what are they really worth?"
