"As for you, son of man, prophesy against Gog and say, 'This is what the Lord GOD says: Look, I am against you, Gog, chief prince of Meshech and Tubal. | 1"Now as for you, Son of Man, prophesy against Gog and tell him, 'This is what the Lord GOD has to say: "Watch out, Gog, you leader of the head of Meshech and of Tubal! |
I will turn you around, drive you on, and lead you up from the remotest parts of the north. I will bring you against the mountains of Israel. | 2I'm going to turn you around, drag you along to your destruction, and bring you up from the farthest parts of the north, and carry you to the mountains of Israel. |
Then I will knock your bow from your left hand and make your arrows drop from your right hand. | 3There I will strike your bow from your left hand and your arrows from your right, causing your fall. |
You, all your troops, and the peoples who are with you will fall on the mountains of Israel. I will give you as food to every kind of predatory bird and to the wild animals. | 4You will collapse on the mountains of Israel, along with all of your soldiers and the nations that have accompanied you. There the raptors, vultures, and wild animals will feed on you. |
You will fall on the open field, for I have spoken. This is the declaration of the Lord GOD. | 5You will fall dead in the open fields, because I have ordered this to happen,' declares the Lord GOD. |
"'I will send fire against Magog and those who live securely on the coasts and islands. Then they will know that I am the LORD. | 6I'm also going to incinerate Magog, along with those who are settled down and at home in the islands. That's when they'll learn that I am the LORD. |
So I will make my holy name known among my people Israel and will no longer allow it to be profaned. Then the nations will know that I am the LORD, the Holy One in Israel. | 7I'll make my holiness and reputation known in the midst of my people Israel, and I won't let my holiness be profaned anymore. The nations will learn that I, the LORD, am holy in the midst of Israel. |
Yes, it is coming, and it will happen. This is the declaration of the Lord GOD. This is the day I have spoken about. | 8Pay attention! It's coming and will certainly happen,' declares the Lord GOD. 'This will be the day about which I've spoken!'"'" |
"'Then the inhabitants of Israel's cities will go out, kindle fires, and burn the weapons--the small and large shields, the bows and arrows, the clubs and spears. For seven years they will use them to make fires. | 9"After all this happens, the people who live in the cities of Israel will be kindling fires for seven years, using small shields, large shields, bows, arrows, clubs, personal weapons, and spears to do so. |
They will not gather wood from the countryside or cut it down from the forests, for they will use the weapons to make fires. They will take the loot from those who looted them and plunder those who plundered them. This is the declaration of the Lord GOD. | 10They won't need to cut down trees from the fields nor gather firewood from the forests, because they will light fires with the weapons as they plunder the plunderers and loot the looters!" declares the Lord GOD. |
"'Now on that day I will give Gog a burial place there in Israel--the Travelers' Valley east of the Sea. It will block those who travel through, for Gog and all his hordes will be buried there. So it will be called Hordes of Gog Valley. | 11"When all of this happens, I'm going to set aside a grave site for Gog in Israel's Traveler's Valley, near the approach to the Dead Sea. She will block off everyone who tries to bypass it. There they will bury Gog, and rename the area 'Valley of Gog's Gang'. |
The house of Israel will spend seven months burying them in order to cleanse the land. | 12The house of Israel will be burying them for seven months in order to purify the land. |
All the people of the land will bury them and their fame will spread on the day I display my glory. This is the declaration of the Lord GOD. | 13Everyone in the land will be involved in the burials, and this will serve as a reminder for them that I have glorified myself," declares the Lord GOD. |
"'They will appoint men on a full-time basis to pass through the land and bury the invaders who remain on the surface of the ground, in order to cleanse it. They will make their search at the end of the seven months. | 14"Men will be assigned to travel continuously throughout the land, exploring for seven full months as they go about burying the bodies that remain from the battle on the surface of the ground, so that the land may be sterilized. |
When they pass through the land and one of them sees a human bone, he will set up a marker next to it until the buriers have buried it in Hordes of Gog Valley. | 15As scouts go searching throughout the land, whenever they see someone's bones, they will place a sign beside the remains until the remains have been buried in the Valley of Gog's Gang. |
There will even be a city named Hamonah there. So they will cleanse the land.' | 16They'll also name the city that is there 'Hamonah,' as they purify the land." |
"Son of man, this is what the Lord GOD says: Tell every kind of bird and all the wild animals, 'Assemble and come! Gather from all around to my sacrificial feast that I am slaughtering for you, a great feast on the mountains of Israel; you will eat flesh and drink blood. | 17"Now as for you, Son of Man, this is what the Lord GOD has to say: 'Tell all of the birds and wild beasts, "Come! Gather together and participate in the sacrifice that I'm going to make for you. This great sacrifice will take place on the mountains of Israel, where you'll be eating flesh and drinking blood. |
You will eat the flesh of mighty men and drink the blood of the earth's princes: rams, lambs, male goats, and all the fattened bulls of Bashan. | 18You'll eat the flesh of mighty men and drink the blood of the world's princes, drinking the blood of these rams, lambs, goats, bulls, all of them fattened as if they're from Bashan, fit for slaughter! |
You will eat fat until you are satisfied and drink blood until you are drunk, at my sacrificial feast that I have prepared for you. | 19You'll eat until you're fat and satiated. You'll drink blood until you're drunk from the sacrifice that I'm going to make for all of you. |
At my table you will eat your fill of horses and riders, of mighty men and all the warriors. This is the declaration of the Lord GOD.' | 20You'll be fully satiated at my table, dining on horse flesh, horsemen, elite soldiers, and every kind of warrior," declares the Lord GOD. |
"I will display my glory among the nations, and all the nations will see the judgment I have executed and the hand I have laid on them. | 21I'm going to display my glory among the people, and every nation will see the judgment that I administer by my own hand among them. |
From that day forward the house of Israel will know that I am the LORD their God. | 22The house of Israel will learn that I am the LORD their God from that day forward! |
And the nations will know that the house of Israel went into exile on account of their iniquity, because they dealt unfaithfully with me. Therefore, I hid my face from them and handed them over to their enemies, so that they all fell by the sword. | 23The nations will also learn that because of Israel's sin the house of Israel went into captivity, since they were unfaithful in their behavior toward me. As a result, I hid my presence from them, turned them over to the control of their enemies, and they died by violence. |
I dealt with them according to their uncleanness and transgressions, and I hid my face from them. | 24It was because of their defilement and transgression that I treated them this way by hiding my presence from them.'" |
"So this is what the Lord GOD says: Now I will restore the fortunes of Jacob and have compassion on the whole house of Israel, and I will be jealous for my holy name. | 25"Therefore this is what the Lord GOD has to say: 'I'm going to restore the resources of Jacob and show mercy to the entire house of Israel. I'll be zealous for my own reputation and for my holiness. |
They will feel remorse for their disgrace and all the unfaithfulness they committed against me, when they live securely in their land with no one to frighten them. | 26They'll forget their shame and all of their unfaithfulness by which they behaved so unfaithfully toward me. They will live on their land in confidence, not in fear. |
When I bring them back from the peoples and gather them from the countries of their enemies, I will demonstrate my holiness through them in the sight of many nations. | 27When I bring them back from the nations and gather them together from the lands that belong to their enemies, I will demonstrate my holiness through them right in front of the eyes of the world, |
They will know that I am the LORD their God when I regather them to their own land after having exiled them among the nations. I will leave none of them behind. | 28and they will learn that I am the LORD their God, who sent them into exile and who gathered them back to their land. I will not leave any of them remaining in exile. |
I will no longer hide my face from them, for I will pour out my Spirit on the house of Israel." This is the declaration of the Lord GOD. | 29I'll no longer hide my presence from them again when I pour out my Spirit on the house of Israel,' declares the Lord GOD." |
