And the LORD said to Job:1The LORD said to Job:
“Will the faultfinder contend with the Almighty? Let him who argues with God give an answer.”2"Will the one who contends with the Almighty correct him? Let him who accuses God answer him!"
Then Job answered the LORD:3Then Job answered the LORD:
“Behold, I am insignificant. How can I reply to You? I place my hand over my mouth.4"I am unworthy--how can I reply to you? I put my hand over my mouth.
I have spoken once, but I have no answer—twice, but I have nothing to add.”5I spoke once, but I have no answer-- twice, but I will say no more."
Then the LORD answered Job out of the whirlwind and said:6Then the LORD spoke to Job out of the storm:
“Now brace yourself like a man; I will question you, and you shall inform Me.7"Brace yourself like a man; I will question you, and you shall answer me.
Would you really annul My justice? Would you condemn Me to justify yourself?8"Would you discredit my justice? Would you condemn me to justify yourself?
Do you have an arm like God’s? Can you thunder with a voice like His?9Do you have an arm like God's, and can your voice thunder like his?
Then adorn yourself with majesty and splendor, and clothe yourself with honor and glory.10Then adorn yourself with glory and splendor, and clothe yourself in honor and majesty.
Unleash the fury of your wrath; look on every proud man and bring him low.11Unleash the fury of your wrath, look at all who are proud and bring them low,
Look on every proud man and humble him; trample the wicked where they stand.12look at all who are proud and humble them, crush the wicked where they stand.
Bury them together in the dust; imprison them in the grave.13Bury them all in the dust together; shroud their faces in the grave.
Then I will confess to you that your own right hand can save you.14Then I myself will admit to you that your own right hand can save you.
Look at Behemoth, which I made along with you. He feeds on grass like an ox.15"Look at Behemoth, which I made along with you and which feeds on grass like an ox.
See the strength of his loins and the power in the muscles of his belly.16What strength it has in its loins, what power in the muscles of its belly!
His tail sways like a cedar; the sinews of his thighs are tightly knit.17Its tail sways like a cedar; the sinews of its thighs are close-knit.
His bones are tubes of bronze; his limbs are rods of iron.18Its bones are tubes of bronze, its limbs like rods of iron.
He is the foremost of God’s works; only his Maker can draw the sword against him.19It ranks first among the works of God, yet its Maker can approach it with his sword.
The hills yield him their produce, while all the beasts of the field play nearby.20The hills bring it their produce, and all the wild animals play nearby.
He lies under the lotus plants, hidden among the reeds of the marsh.21Under the lotus plants it lies, hidden among the reeds in the marsh.
The lotus plants conceal him in their shade; the willows of the brook surround him.22The lotuses conceal it in their shadow; the poplars by the stream surround it.
Though the river rages, Behemoth is unafraid; he remains secure, though the Jordan surges to his mouth.23A raging river does not alarm it; it is secure, though the Jordan should surge against its mouth.
Can anyone capture him as he looks on, or pierce his nose with a snare?24Can anyone capture it by the eyes, or trap it and pierce its nose?
