For the choirmaster. A Psalm of David, the servant of the LORD. An oracle is in my heart regarding the transgression of the wicked man: There is no fear of God before his eyes. | 1For the music director; written by the LORD's servant, David; an oracle. An evil man is rebellious to the core. He does not fear God, |
For his eyes are too full of conceit to detect or hate his own sin. | 2for he is too proud to recognize and give up his sin. |
The words of his mouth are wicked and deceitful; he has ceased to be wise and well-doing. | 3The words he speaks are sinful and deceitful; he does not care about doing what is wise and right. |
Even on his bed he plots wickedness; he sets himself on a path that is not good; he fails to reject evil. | 4He plans ways to sin while he lies in bed; he is committed to a sinful lifestyle; he does not reject what is evil. |
Your loving devotion, O LORD, reaches to the heavens, Your faithfulness to the clouds. | 5O LORD, your loyal love reaches to the sky; your faithfulness to the clouds. |
Your righteousness is like the highest mountains; Your judgments are like the deepest sea. O LORD, You preserve man and beast. | 6Your justice is like the highest mountains, your fairness like the deepest sea; you preserve mankind and the animal kingdom. |
How precious is Your loving devotion, O God, that the children of men take refuge in the shadow of Your wings! | 7How precious is your loyal love, O God! The human race finds shelter under your wings. |
They feast on the abundance of Your house, and You give them drink from Your river of delights. | 8They are filled with food from your house, and you allow them to drink from the river of your delicacies. |
For with You is the fountain of life; in Your light we see light. | 9For you are the one who gives and sustains life. |
Extend Your loving devotion to those who know You, and Your righteousness to the upright in heart. | 10Extend your loyal love to your faithful followers, and vindicate the morally upright! |
Let not the foot of the proud come against me, nor the hand of the wicked drive me away. | 11Do not let arrogant men overtake me, or let evil men make me homeless! |
There the evildoers lie fallen, thrown down and unable to rise. | 12I can see the evildoers! They have fallen! They have been knocked down and are unable to get up! |
