The term "we're" is a contraction of "we are," commonly used in modern English. While the contraction itself does not appear in the Bible, the concept of collective identity and unity among believers is a significant theme throughout the Scriptures. The Bible emphasizes the importance of community, fellowship, and the collective identity of the people of God.

Unity in the Body of Christ

The New Testament frequently addresses the unity and collective identity of believers as the Body of Christ. In 1 Corinthians 12:12-14, the Apostle Paul writes, "For just as the body is one and has many parts, and all the parts of that body, though many, are one body, so also is Christ. For in one Spirit we were all baptized into one body, whether Jews or Greeks, slave or free, and we were all given one Spirit to drink. For the body does not consist of one part, but of many" . This passage highlights the unity and diversity within the Church, emphasizing that all believers, regardless of their background, are part of one body in Christ.

Fellowship and Community

The early Church is depicted as a community of believers who shared their lives and resources with one another. Acts 2:42-47 describes the early Christians: "They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. Everyone was filled with awe at the many wonders and signs performed by the apostles. All the believers were together and had everything in common. They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need. Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved" . This passage illustrates the communal aspect of the early Church, where believers lived in unity and shared their lives with one another.

Collective Identity of God's People

Throughout the Bible, God's people are often addressed collectively. In the Old Testament, Israel is frequently referred to as a nation chosen by God. Deuteronomy 7:6 states, "For you are a people holy to the LORD your God. The LORD your God has chosen you out of all the peoples on the face of the earth to be his people, his treasured possession" . This collective identity is carried into the New Testament, where believers in Christ are described as a "chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession" (1 Peter 2:9).

The Church as a Spiritual Family

The New Testament also portrays the Church as a spiritual family. In Ephesians 2:19-22, Paul writes, "Therefore you are no longer strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens with the saints and members of God’s household, built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus Himself as the cornerstone. In Him the whole building is fitted together and grows into a holy temple in the Lord. And in Him you too are being built together into a dwelling place for God in His Spirit" . This metaphor of the Church as a household emphasizes the familial bonds among believers, united by their faith in Christ.

Conclusion

While the contraction "we're" is not found in the biblical text, the concept of collective identity and unity among believers is deeply rooted in Scripture. The Bible consistently emphasizes the importance of community, fellowship, and the shared identity of God's people, both in the Old and New Testaments.
