Strength: A Title Given to Jehovah

In the biblical context, "Strength" is not merely an attribute of God but is also used as a title that signifies His omnipotence and sovereign power. This title underscores the belief that God is the ultimate source of strength for His people, providing them with the fortitude and resilience needed to face life's challenges.

The concept of God as "Strength" is deeply rooted in the Old Testament. In Exodus 15:2 , Moses and the Israelites sing, "The LORD is my strength and my song, and He has become my salvation. He is my God, and I will praise Him, my father’s God, and I will exalt Him." Here, the term "strength" is directly associated with God's deliverance and salvation, highlighting His role as a protector and savior.

The Psalms frequently refer to God as the source of strength. Psalm 18:1-2 declares, "I love You, O LORD, my strength. The LORD is my rock, my fortress, and my deliverer. My God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold." This passage illustrates the multifaceted nature of God's strength, portraying Him as a refuge and a stronghold, providing safety and security to those who trust in Him.

In Isaiah 12:2 , the prophet proclaims, "Surely God is my salvation; I will trust and not be afraid. For the LORD GOD is my strength and my song, and He also has become my salvation." This verse emphasizes the personal relationship between the believer and God, where trust in God's strength dispels fear and brings about a sense of peace and assurance.

The New Testament continues this theme, with the Apostle Paul often speaking of God's strength in the context of human weakness. In 2 Corinthians 12:9-10 , Paul recounts the Lord's words to him: "My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is perfected in weakness." Paul then concludes, "Therefore I will boast all the more gladly in my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest on me. That is why, for the sake of Christ, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong." Here, the strength of God is made perfect in human frailty, demonstrating that divine power is most evident when human strength fails.

The title of "Strength" ascribed to Jehovah is not only a testament to His power but also a promise of His support and presence in the lives of believers. It is a reminder that, regardless of circumstances, God's strength is available to those who seek Him, providing them with the courage and endurance to persevere.
