In the New Testament, Jesus' responses to various pieces of news provide profound insights into His character, mission, and divine wisdom. These responses are recorded in the Gospels and reveal His compassion, authority, and understanding of God's will.

1. News of John the Baptist's Imprisonment and Death:

When Jesus heard about John the Baptist's imprisonment, He withdrew to Galilee (Matthew 4:12). This withdrawal was not out of fear but a strategic move to continue His ministry in a different region. Later, upon hearing of John's execution, Jesus' response was one of deep personal sorrow and reflection. "When Jesus heard about it, He withdrew from there by boat privately to a solitary place" (Matthew 14:13). This retreat highlights Jesus' humanity and His need for solitude in times of grief, yet it also sets the stage for the miraculous feeding of the five thousand, demonstrating His compassion for the multitudes even in His own time of mourning.

2. News of Lazarus' Illness and Death:

In John 11, Jesus receives news that His friend Lazarus is ill. His response is initially one of delay, as He remains where He is for two more days. Jesus explains, "This sickness will not end in death. No, it is for God’s glory, so that the Son of God may be glorified through it" (John 11:4). When He finally arrives in Bethany, Lazarus has been dead for four days. Jesus' response to this news is multifaceted: He weeps with those who mourn (John 11:35), showing His empathy and shared sorrow, yet He also demonstrates His divine authority by raising Lazarus from the dead, thus revealing His power over life and death.

3. News of Jairus' Daughter:

In Mark 5:22-43, Jesus is approached by Jairus, a synagogue leader, who pleads for the healing of his dying daughter. As Jesus is on His way, He is informed that the girl has died. The messengers say, "Your daughter is dead. Why bother the Teacher anymore?" (Mark 5:35). Jesus responds with faith and assurance, telling Jairus, "Do not be afraid; just believe" (Mark 5:36). He proceeds to the house, where He raises the girl from the dead, demonstrating His power over death and His encouragement to trust in Him despite seemingly hopeless circumstances.

4. News of the Disciples' Success:

After sending out the twelve disciples, they return to report their success in preaching and healing. Jesus responds by inviting them to a quiet place to rest (Mark 6:30-31). This response underscores the importance of rest and reflection after ministry work, highlighting Jesus' care for His disciples' well-being and the need for balance between work and rest in the life of a believer.

5. News of the Pharisees' Plot:

In John 11:47-53, after the raising of Lazarus, the Pharisees and chief priests convene a council to plot against Jesus. When Jesus becomes aware of their intentions, He does not confront them directly but instead withdraws to a region near the wilderness (John 11:54). This strategic withdrawal illustrates Jesus' awareness of the timing of His mission and His control over the unfolding of events leading to His crucifixion.

Throughout these accounts, Jesus' responses to news reveal His divine insight, compassion, and strategic approach to His mission. His reactions are not merely human but are deeply intertwined with His understanding of God's greater plan and purpose.
