Favor

In the biblical context, "favor" refers to the grace, kindness, and goodwill that God or individuals bestow upon others. It is often associated with divine blessing and approval, leading to prosperity, protection, and success. The concept of favor is deeply rooted in the relationship between God and His people, as well as in interpersonal relationships.

Divine Favor: The Bible frequently speaks of God's favor as a source of blessing and protection. In Genesis 6:8, Noah found favor in the eyes of the Lord, which led to his preservation during the flood: "But Noah found favor in the eyes of the LORD." This favor is not earned by human merit but is a manifestation of God's grace and sovereign choice. Similarly, Mary, the mother of Jesus, was greeted by the angel Gabriel as one who had found favor with God (Luke 1:30): "Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God."

Human Favor: Favor can also be seen in human relationships, where individuals find favor in the eyes of others, often leading to opportunities and advancement. For example, Joseph found favor in the eyes of Potiphar, his Egyptian master, which led to his rise in authority within Potiphar's household (Genesis 39:4): "Joseph found favor in his sight and became his personal attendant."

Seeking Favor: The Bible encourages believers to seek God's favor through righteous living and obedience. Proverbs 3:3-4 advises, "Let loving devotion and faithfulness never leave you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart. Then you will find favor and high regard in the sight of God and man."

Preparation

Preparation in the Bible often involves spiritual readiness, moral integrity, and practical planning. It is a theme that underscores the importance of being ready for God's purposes and the challenges of life.

Spiritual Preparation: The Bible emphasizes the need for spiritual preparation, particularly in the context of the coming of the Lord. John the Baptist's ministry was one of preparation, as he called people to repentance to prepare the way for Jesus (Matthew 3:3): "A voice of one calling in the wilderness, ‘Prepare the way for the Lord, make straight paths for Him.’"

Moral and Ethical Preparation: Believers are called to prepare their hearts and minds for righteous living. In 1 Peter 1:13, Christians are urged to prepare their minds for action: "Therefore prepare your minds for action. Be sober-minded; set your hope fully on the grace to be given you at the revelation of Jesus Christ."

Practical Preparation: The Bible also acknowledges the importance of practical preparation. Proverbs 6:6-8 uses the example of the ant to teach the value of diligence and foresight: "Go to the ant, O sluggard; consider her ways and be wise. Without a commander, without an overseer or ruler, she prepares her bread in summer and gathers her food in harvest."

Preparation for Trials: Believers are encouraged to prepare for trials and tribulations by building a strong foundation of faith. Jesus' parable of the wise and foolish builders in Matthew 7:24-27 illustrates the importance of preparing one's life on the solid foundation of His teachings.

In summary, favor and preparation are intertwined themes in the Bible, highlighting the importance of seeking God's grace and being ready for His purposes through spiritual, moral, and practical means.
