The term "expertly" is not directly found in the Bible; however, the concept of skillful and expert work is prevalent throughout the Scriptures. The Bible often highlights the importance of skill, wisdom, and expertise in various contexts, from craftsmanship to leadership.

Old Testament Context

In the Old Testament, the concept of expertise is frequently associated with craftsmanship and the construction of sacred spaces. One of the most notable examples is the building of the Tabernacle. In Exodus 31:1-5 , God appoints Bezalel, saying, "See, I have chosen Bezalel son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah, and I have filled him with the Spirit of God, with wisdom, understanding, and ability in all kinds of craftsmanship, to design artistic works in gold, silver, and bronze, to cut gemstones for settings, and to carve wood, so that he may be a master of every craft." Here, Bezalel is endowed with divine wisdom and skill, illustrating the value placed on expert craftsmanship in the service of God.

Similarly, in 1 Kings 7:13-14 , Hiram of Tyre is described as a skilled craftsman brought in to work on Solomon's Temple: "Now King Solomon sent to bring Huram from Tyre. He was a widow’s son from the tribe of Naphtali, and his father was a man of Tyre, a craftsman in bronze. Huram was filled with wisdom, understanding, and skill to do all kinds of bronze work. So he came to King Solomon and performed all his work."

Wisdom Literature

The wisdom literature of the Bible, particularly the Book of Proverbs, often emphasizes the value of skill and expertise. Proverbs 22:29 states, "Do you see a man skilled in his work? He will stand before kings; he will not stand before obscure men." This proverb underscores the idea that expertise and diligence in one's work lead to recognition and honor.

New Testament Context

In the New Testament, while the term "expertly" is not explicitly used, the concept is evident in the teachings of Jesus and the apostles. The parable of the talents in Matthew 25:14-30 illustrates the importance of using one's skills and resources wisely and diligently. The servants who invest their talents wisely are commended, while the one who fails to do so is rebuked. This parable highlights the expectation that believers should use their God-given abilities effectively and responsibly.

The Apostle Paul also speaks to the idea of working skillfully and with excellence. In Colossians 3:23-24 , he writes, "Whatever you do, work at it with your whole being, for the Lord and not for men, because you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as your reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving." This passage encourages believers to approach their work with dedication and expertise, as an act of service to God.

Conclusion

While the Bible does not use the term "expertly," the Scriptures consistently affirm the value of skill, wisdom, and expertise in various domains of life. Whether in craftsmanship, leadership, or daily work, the Bible encourages believers to pursue excellence and to use their abilities for the glory of God and the benefit of others.
