Etymology and Meaning:
The name "Dibongad" is derived from Hebrew origins, though its exact meaning is not explicitly detailed in biblical texts. It is often associated with the tribal allotments and geographical locations pertinent to the tribes of Israel.

Biblical References:
Dibongad is mentioned in the context of the tribal inheritances in the Book of Numbers. Specifically, it is referenced in Numbers 32:34, where the descendants of Gad are described as building cities, including Dibon. The Berean Standard Bible states: "And the Gadites built up Dibon, Ataroth, Aroer."

Historical and Geographical Context:
Dibongad is understood to be a city or region associated with the tribe of Gad, one of the twelve tribes of Israel. The tribe of Gad was allocated land on the eastern side of the Jordan River, an area known for its pastoral lands suitable for livestock, which was a primary occupation of the Gadites. The city of Dibon, often linked with Dibongad, was strategically significant and served as a center for the Gadites.

Cultural and Theological Significance:
The mention of Dibongad in the context of the Gadites' settlement highlights the fulfillment of God's promises to the tribes of Israel regarding their inheritance in the Promised Land. The construction and establishment of cities like Dibon underscore the transition of the Israelites from a nomadic lifestyle to a settled existence, reflecting God's provision and faithfulness.

Archaeological Insights:
While direct archaeological evidence specifically identifying Dibongad is limited, the region of Dibon has been subject to various excavations. Artifacts and inscriptions, such as the Mesha Stele, provide insights into the historical and cultural milieu of the area during biblical times. These findings contribute to a broader understanding of the tribal dynamics and geopolitical landscape during the period of the Judges and the United Monarchy.

Theological Reflections:
Dibongad, as part of the Gadite inheritance, serves as a testament to the divine orchestration of Israel's settlement in Canaan. It reflects the broader narrative of God's covenantal relationship with His people, emphasizing themes of faithfulness, obedience, and the realization of divine promises. The establishment of cities like Dibongad illustrates the tangible aspects of God's blessings and the importance of community and identity within the tribal framework of Israel.

DIBON; DIBON-GAD

di'-bon (dibhon, "washing"; Daibon):

(1) A city of Moab captured by the Amorites (Numbers 21:30), and held by them at the invasion by Israel. It was taken and given to the tribe of Gad, whence it is called Dibon-gad (Numbers 32:34; Numbers 33:45). In Joshua 13:17 it is reckoned to Reuben. Along with other cities in the territory North of the Arnon, Dibon changed hands several times between Moab and Israel. Mesha claims it (MS), and in Jeremiah 48:18, 22 it is named among the cities of Moab. The form of the name, Dimon, in Isaiah 15:9, may have been given to make it resemble the Hebrew dam, "blood," to support the play upon words in the verse (HDB, under the word). It is represented by the modern Dhiban, about 4 miles North of Aroer (`Ara`ir), on the line of the old Roman road. The ruins that spread over two adjacent knolls are of no importance: walls, a tower, cistern, etc. Near Dibon the famous Moabite Stone was found.

(2) A town in Judah, occupied after the exile (Nehemiah 11:25). It may be the same as Dimonah (Joshua 15:22); unidentified.
