New Living Translation | New American Standard Bible 1995 |
I wait quietly before God, for my victory comes from him. | 1For the choir director; according to Jeduthun. A Psalm of David. My soul waits in silence for God only; From Him is my salvation. |
He alone is my rock and my salvation, my fortress where I will never be shaken. | 2He only is my rock and my salvation, My stronghold; I shall not be greatly shaken. |
So many enemies against one man— all of them trying to kill me. To them I’m just a broken-down wall or a tottering fence. | 3How long will you assail a man, That you may murder him, all of you, Like a leaning wall, like a tottering fence? |
They plan to topple me from my high position. They delight in telling lies about me. They praise me to my face but curse me in their hearts. Interlude | 4They have counseled only to thrust him down from his high position; They delight in falsehood; They bless with their mouth, But inwardly they curse. Selah. |
Let all that I am wait quietly before God, for my hope is in him. | 5My soul, wait in silence for God only, For my hope is from Him. |
He alone is my rock and my salvation, my fortress where I will not be shaken. | 6He only is my rock and my salvation, My stronghold; I shall not be shaken. |
My victory and honor come from God alone. He is my refuge, a rock where no enemy can reach me. | 7On God my salvation and my glory rest; The rock of my strength, my refuge is in God. |
O my people, trust in him at all times. Pour out your heart to him, for God is our refuge. Interlude | 8Trust in Him at all times, O people; Pour out your heart before Him; God is a refuge for us. Selah. |
Common people are as worthless as a puff of wind, and the powerful are not what they appear to be. If you weigh them on the scales, together they are lighter than a breath of air. | 9Men of low degree are only vanity and men of rank are a lie; In the balances they go up; They are together lighter than breath. |
Don’t make your living by extortion or put your hope in stealing. And if your wealth increases, don’t make it the center of your life. | 10Do not trust in oppression And do not vainly hope in robbery; If riches increase, do not set your heart upon them. |
God has spoken plainly, and I have heard it many times: Power, O God, belongs to you; | 11Once God has spoken; Twice I have heard this: That power belongs to God; |
unfailing love, O Lord, is yours. Surely you repay all people according to what they have done. | 12And lovingkindness is Yours, O Lord, For You recompense a man according to his work. |
