2Dan, Joseph, Benjamin, Naphtali, Gad, and Asher. Descendants of Judah | 2Dan, Joseph, and Benjamin, Naphtali, Gad, and Asher. |
3Judah had three sons from Bathshua, a Canaanite woman. Their names were Er, Onan, and Shelah. But the LORD saw that the oldest son, Er, was a wicked man, so he killed him. | 3The sons of Judah; Er, and Onan, and Shelah: which three were born unto him of the daughter of Shua the Canaanitess. And Er, the firstborn of Judah, was evil in the sight of the LORD; and he slew him. |
4Later Judah had twin sons from Tamar, his widowed daughter-in-law. Their names were Perez and Zerah. So Judah had five sons in all. | 4And Tamar his daughter in law bare him Pharez and Zerah. All the sons of Judah were five. |
5The sons of Perez were Hezron and Hamul. | 5The sons of Pharez; Hezron, and Hamul. |
6The sons of Zerah were Zimri, Ethan, Heman, Calcol, and Darda —five in all. | 6And the sons of Zerah; Zimri, and Ethan, and Heman, and Calcol, and Dara: five of them in all. |
7The son of Carmi (a descendant of Zimri) was Achan, who brought disaster on Israel by taking plunder that had been set apart for the LORD. | 7And the sons of Carmi; Achar, the troubler of Israel, who transgressed in the thing accursed. |
8The son of Ethan was Azariah. From Judah’s Grandson Hezron to David | 8And the sons of Ethan; Azariah. |
9The sons of Hezron were Jerahmeel, Ram, and Caleb. | 9The sons also of Hezron, that were born unto him; Jerahmeel, and Ram, and Chelubai. |
10Ram was the father of Amminadab. Amminadab was the father of Nahshon, a leader of Judah. | 10And Ram begat Amminadab; and Amminadab begat Nahshon, prince of the children of Judah; |
11Nahshon was the father of Salmon. Salmon was the father of Boaz. | 11And Nahshon begat Salma, and Salma begat Boaz, |
12Boaz was the father of Obed. Obed was the father of Jesse. | 12And Boaz begat Obed, and Obed begat Jesse, |
13Jesse’s first son was Eliab, his second was Abinadab, his third was Shimea, | 13And Jesse begat his firstborn Eliab, and Abinadab the second, and Shimma the third, |
14his fourth was Nethanel, his fifth was Raddai, | 14Nethaneel the fourth, Raddai the fifth, |
15his sixth was Ozem, and his seventh was David. | 15Ozem the sixth, David the seventh: |
16Their sisters were named Zeruiah and Abigail. Zeruiah had three sons named Abishai, Joab, and Asahel. | 16Whose sisters were Zeruiah, and Abigail. And the sons of Zeruiah; Abishai, and Joab, and Asahel, three. |
17Abigail married a man named Jether, an Ishmaelite, and they had a son named Amasa. Other Descendants of Hezron | 17And Abigail bare Amasa: and the father of Amasa was Jether the Ishmeelite. |
18Hezron’s son Caleb had sons from his wife Azubah and from Jerioth. Her sons were named Jesher, Shobab, and Ardon. | 18And Caleb the son of Hezron begat children of Azubah his wife, and of Jerioth: her sons are these; Jesher, and Shobab, and Ardon. |
19After Azubah died, Caleb married Ephrathah, and they had a son named Hur. | 19And when Azubah was dead, Caleb took unto him Ephrath, which bare him Hur. |
20Hur was the father of Uri. Uri was the father of Bezalel. | 20And Hur begat Uri, and Uri begat Bezaleel. |
21When Hezron was sixty years old, he married Gilead’s sister, the daughter of Makir. They had a son named Segub. | 21And afterward Hezron went in to the daughter of Machir the father of Gilead, whom he married when he was threescore years old; and she bare him Segub. |
22Segub was the father of Jair, who ruled twenty-three towns in the land of Gilead. | 22And Segub begat Jair, who had three and twenty cities in the land of Gilead. |
23(But Geshur and Aram captured the Towns of Jair and also took Kenath and its sixty surrounding villages.) All these were descendants of Makir, the father of Gilead. | 23And he took Geshur, and Aram, with the towns of Jair, from them, with Kenath, and the towns thereof, even threescore cities. All these belonged to the sons of Machir the father of Gilead. |
24Soon after Hezron died in the town of Caleb-ephrathah, his wife Abijah gave birth to a son named Ashhur (the father of Tekoa). Descendants of Hezron’s Son Jerahmeel | 24And after that Hezron was dead in Calebephratah, then Abiah Hezron's wife bare him Ashur the father of Tekoa. |
25The sons of Jerahmeel, the oldest son of Hezron, were Ram (the firstborn), Bunah, Oren, Ozem, and Ahijah. | 25And the sons of Jerahmeel the firstborn of Hezron were, Ram the firstborn, and Bunah, and Oren, and Ozem, and Ahijah. |
26Jerahmeel had a second wife named Atarah. She was the mother of Onam. | 26Jerahmeel had also another wife, whose name was Atarah; she was the mother of Onam. |
27The sons of Ram, the oldest son of Jerahmeel, were Maaz, Jamin, and Eker. | 27And the sons of Ram the firstborn of Jerahmeel were, Maaz, and Jamin, and Eker. |
28The sons of Onam were Shammai and Jada. The sons of Shammai were Nadab and Abishur. | 28And the sons of Onam were, Shammai, and Jada. And the sons of Shammai; Nadab, and Abishur. |
29The sons of Abishur and his wife Abihail were Ahban and Molid. | 29And the name of the wife of Abishur was Abihail, and she bare him Ahban, and Molid. |
30The sons of Nadab were Seled and Appaim. Seled died without children, | 30And the sons of Nadab; Seled, and Appaim: but Seled died without children. |
31but Appaim had a son named Ishi. The son of Ishi was Sheshan. Sheshan had a descendant named Ahlai. | 31And the sons of Appaim; Ishi. And the sons of Ishi; Sheshan. And the children of Sheshan; Ahlai. |
32The sons of Jada, Shammai’s brother, were Jether and Jonathan. Jether died without children, | 32And the sons of Jada the brother of Shammai; Jether, and Jonathan: and Jether died without children. |
33but Jonathan had two sons named Peleth and Zaza. These were all descendants of Jerahmeel. | 33And the sons of Jonathan; Peleth, and Zaza. These were the sons of Jerahmeel. |
34Sheshan had no sons, though he did have daughters. He also had an Egyptian servant named Jarha. | 34Now Sheshan had no sons, but daughters. And Sheshan had a servant, an Egyptian, whose name was Jarha. |
35Sheshan gave one of his daughters to be the wife of Jarha, and they had a son named Attai. | 35And Sheshan gave his daughter to Jarha his servant to wife; and she bare him Attai. |
36Attai was the father of Nathan. Nathan was the father of Zabad. | 36And Attai begat Nathan, and Nathan begat Zabad, |
37Zabad was the father of Ephlal. Ephlal was the father of Obed. | 37And Zabad begat Ephlal, and Ephlal begat Obed, |
38Obed was the father of Jehu. Jehu was the father of Azariah. | 38And Obed begat Jehu, and Jehu begat Azariah, |
39Azariah was the father of Helez. Helez was the father of Eleasah. | 39And Azariah begat Helez, and Helez begat Eleasah, |
40Eleasah was the father of Sismai. Sismai was the father of Shallum. | 40And Eleasah begat Sisamai, and Sisamai begat Shallum, |
41Shallum was the father of Jekamiah. Jekamiah was the father of Elishama. Descendants of Hezron’s Son Caleb | 41And Shallum begat Jekamiah, and Jekamiah begat Elishama. |
42The descendants of Caleb, the brother of Jerahmeel, included Mesha (the firstborn), who became the father of Ziph. Caleb’s descendants also included the sons of Mareshah, the father of Hebron. | 42Now the sons of Caleb the brother of Jerahmeel were, Mesha his firstborn, which was the father of Ziph; and the sons of Mareshah the father of Hebron. |
43The sons of Hebron were Korah, Tappuah, Rekem, and Shema. | 43And the sons of Hebron; Korah, and Tappuah, and Rekem, and Shema. |
44Shema was the father of Raham. Raham was the father of Jorkeam. Rekem was the father of Shammai. | 44And Shema begat Raham, the father of Jorkoam: and Rekem begat Shammai. |
45The son of Shammai was Maon. Maon was the father of Beth-zur. | 45And the son of Shammai was Maon: and Maon was the father of Bethzur. |
46Caleb’s concubine Ephah gave birth to Haran, Moza, and Gazez. Haran was the father of Gazez. | 46And Ephah, Caleb's concubine, bare Haran, and Moza, and Gazez: and Haran begat Gazez. |
47The sons of Jahdai were Regem, Jotham, Geshan, Pelet, Ephah, and Shaaph. | 47And the sons of Jahdai; Regem, and Jotham, and Geshan, and Pelet, and Ephah, and Shaaph. |
48Another of Caleb’s concubines, Maacah, gave birth to Sheber and Tirhanah. | 48Maachah, Caleb's concubine, bare Sheber, and Tirhanah. |
49She also gave birth to Shaaph (the father of Madmannah) and Sheva (the father of Macbenah and Gibea). Caleb also had a daughter named Acsah. | 49She bare also Shaaph the father of Madmannah, Sheva the father of Machbenah, and the father of Gibea: and the daughter of Caleb was Achsah. |
50These were all descendants of Caleb. Descendants of Caleb’s Son Hur The sons of Hur, the oldest son of Caleb’s wife Ephrathah, were Shobal (the founder of Kiriath-jearim), | 50These were the sons of Caleb the son of Hur, the firstborn of Ephratah; Shobal the father of Kirjathjearim, |
51Salma (the founder of Bethlehem), and Hareph (the founder of Beth-gader). | 51Salma the father of Bethlehem, Hareph the father of Bethgader. |
52The descendants of Shobal (the founder of Kiriath-jearim) were Haroeh, half the Manahathites, | 52And Shobal the father of Kirjathjearim had sons; Haroeh, and half of the Manahethites. |
53and the families of Kiriath-jearim—the Ithrites, Puthites, Shumathites, and Mishraites, from whom came the people of Zorah and Eshtaol. | 53And the families of Kirjathjearim; the Ithrites, and the Puhites, and the Shumathites, and the Mishraites; of them came the Zareathites, and the Eshtaulites. |
54The descendants of Salma were the people of Bethlehem, the Netophathites, Atroth-beth-joab, the other half of the Manahathites, the Zorites, | 54The sons of Salma; Bethlehem, and the Netophathites, Ataroth, the house of Joab, and half of the Manahethites, the Zorites. |
55and the families of scribes living at Jabez—the Tirathites, Shimeathites, and Sucathites. All these were Kenites who descended from Hammath, the father of the family of Recab. | 55And the families of the scribes which dwelt at Jabez; the Tirathites, the Shimeathites, and Suchathites. These are the Kenites that came of Hemath, the father of the house of Rechab. |
