New Living Translation | Berean Study Bible |
O God, listen to my complaint. Protect my life from my enemies’ threats. | 1For the choirmaster. A Psalm of David. Hear, O God, my voice of complaint; preserve my life from dread of the enemy. |
Hide me from the plots of this evil mob, from this gang of wrongdoers. | 2Hide me from the scheming of the wicked, from the mob of workers of iniquity, |
They sharpen their tongues like swords and aim their bitter words like arrows. | 3who sharpen their tongues like swords and aim their bitter words like arrows, |
They shoot from ambush at the innocent, attacking suddenly and fearlessly. | 4ambushing the innocent in seclusion, shooting suddenly, without fear. |
They encourage each other to do evil and plan how to set their traps in secret. “Who will ever notice?” they ask. | 5They hold fast to their evil purpose; they speak of hiding their snares. “Who will see them?” they say. |
As they plot their crimes, they say, “We have devised the perfect plan!” Yes, the human heart and mind are cunning. | 6They devise injustice and say, “We have perfected a secret plan.” For the inner man and the heart are mysterious. |
But God himself will shoot them with his arrows, suddenly striking them down. | 7But God will shoot them with arrows; suddenly they will be wounded. |
Their own tongues will ruin them, and all who see them will shake their heads in scorn. | 8They will be made to stumble, their own tongues turned against them. All who see will shake their heads. |
Then everyone will be afraid; they will proclaim the mighty acts of God and realize all the amazing things he does. | 9Then all mankind will fear and proclaim the work of God; so they will ponder what He has done. |
The godly will rejoice in the LORD and find shelter in him. And those who do what is right will praise him. | 10Let the righteous rejoice in the LORD and take refuge in Him; let all the upright in heart exult. |
