New King James Version | New Living Translation |
Then the LORD said to me, “Go again, love a woman who is loved by a lover and is committing adultery, just like the love of the LORD for the children of Israel, who look to other gods and love the raisin cakes of the pagans.” | 1Then the LORD said to me, “Go and love your wife again, even though she commits adultery with another lover. This will illustrate that the LORD still loves Israel, even though the people have turned to other gods and love to worship them. ” |
So I bought her for myself for fifteen shekels of silver, and one and one-half homers of barley. | 2So I bought her back for fifteen pieces of silver and five bushels of barley and a measure of wine. |
And I said to her, “You shall stay with me many days; you shall not play the harlot, nor shall you have a man—so, too, will I be toward you.” | 3Then I said to her, “You must live in my house for many days and stop your prostitution. During this time, you will not have sexual relations with anyone, not even with me. ” |
For the children of Israel shall abide many days without king or prince, without sacrifice or sacred pillar, without ephod or teraphim. | 4This shows that Israel will go a long time without a king or prince, and without sacrifices, sacred pillars, priests, or even idols! |
Afterward the children of Israel shall return and seek the LORD their God and David their king. They shall fear the LORD and His goodness in the latter days. | 5But afterward the people will return and devote themselves to the LORD their God and to David’s descendant, their king. In the last days, they will tremble in awe of the LORD and of his goodness. |
