New King James Version | New International Version |
Then God remembered Noah, and every living thing, and all the animals that were with him in the ark. And God made a wind to pass over the earth, and the waters subsided. | 1But God remembered Noah and all the wild animals and the livestock that were with him in the ark, and he sent a wind over the earth, and the waters receded. |
The fountains of the deep and the windows of heaven were also stopped, and the rain from heaven was restrained. | 2Now the springs of the deep and the floodgates of the heavens had been closed, and the rain had stopped falling from the sky. |
And the waters receded continually from the earth. At the end of the hundred and fifty days the waters decreased. | 3The water receded steadily from the earth. At the end of the hundred and fifty days the water had gone down, |
Then the ark rested in the seventh month, the seventeenth day of the month, on the mountains of Ararat. | 4and on the seventeenth day of the seventh month the ark came to rest on the mountains of Ararat. |
And the waters decreased continually until the tenth month. In the tenth month, on the first day of the month, the tops of the mountains were seen. | 5The waters continued to recede until the tenth month, and on the first day of the tenth month the tops of the mountains became visible. |
So it came to pass, at the end of forty days, that Noah opened the window of the ark which he had made. | 6After forty days Noah opened a window he had made in the ark |
Then he sent out a raven, which kept going to and fro until the waters had dried up from the earth. | 7and sent out a raven, and it kept flying back and forth until the water had dried up from the earth. |
He also sent out from himself a dove, to see if the waters had receded from the face of the ground. | 8Then he sent out a dove to see if the water had receded from the surface of the ground. |
But the dove found no resting place for the sole of her foot, and she returned into the ark to him, for the waters were on the face of the whole earth. So he put out his hand and took her, and drew her into the ark to himself. | 9But the dove could find nowhere to perch because there was water over all the surface of the earth; so it returned to Noah in the ark. He reached out his hand and took the dove and brought it back to himself in the ark. |
And he waited yet another seven days, and again he sent the dove out from the ark. | 10He waited seven more days and again sent out the dove from the ark. |
Then the dove came to him in the evening, and behold, a freshly plucked olive leaf was in her mouth; and Noah knew that the waters had receded from the earth. | 11When the dove returned to him in the evening, there in its beak was a freshly plucked olive leaf! Then Noah knew that the water had receded from the earth. |
So he waited yet another seven days and sent out the dove, which did not return again to him anymore. | 12He waited seven more days and sent the dove out again, but this time it did not return to him. |
And it came to pass in the six hundred and first year, in the first month, the first day of the month, that the waters were dried up from the earth; and Noah removed the covering of the ark and looked, and indeed the surface of the ground was dry. | 13By the first day of the first month of Noah's six hundred and first year, the water had dried up from the earth. Noah then removed the covering from the ark and saw that the surface of the ground was dry. |
And in the second month, on the twenty-seventh day of the month, the earth was dried. | 14By the twenty-seventh day of the second month the earth was completely dry. |
Then God spoke to Noah, saying, | 15Then God said to Noah, |
“Go out of the ark, you and your wife, and your sons and your sons’ wives with you. | 16"Come out of the ark, you and your wife and your sons and their wives. |
Bring out with you every living thing of all flesh that is with you: birds and cattle and every creeping thing that creeps on the earth, so that they may abound on the earth, and be fruitful and multiply on the earth.” | 17Bring out every kind of living creature that is with you--the birds, the animals, and all the creatures that move along the ground--so they can multiply on the earth and be fruitful and increase in number on it." |
So Noah went out, and his sons and his wife and his sons’ wives with him. | 18So Noah came out, together with his sons and his wife and his sons' wives. |
Every animal, every creeping thing, every bird, and whatever creeps on the earth, according to their families, went out of the ark. | 19All the animals and all the creatures that move along the ground and all the birds--everything that moves on land--came out of the ark, one kind after another. |
Then Noah built an altar to the LORD, and took of every clean animal and of every clean bird, and offered burnt offerings on the altar. | 20Then Noah built an altar to the LORD and, taking some of all the clean animals and clean birds, he sacrificed burnt offerings on it. |
And the LORD smelled a soothing aroma. Then the LORD said in His heart, “I will never again curse the ground for man’s sake, although the imagination of man’s heart is evil from his youth; nor will I again destroy every living thing as I have done. | 21The LORD smelled the pleasing aroma and said in his heart: "Never again will I curse the ground because of humans, even though every inclination of the human heart is evil from childhood. And never again will I destroy all living creatures, as I have done. |
“While the earth remains, Seedtime and harvest, Cold and heat, Winter and summer, And day and night Shall not cease.” | 22"As long as the earth endures, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night will never cease." |
