New King James Version | NET Bible |
To the Chief Musician. With stringed instruments. A Psalm of David. Hear me when I call, O God of my righteousness! You have relieved me in my distress; Have mercy on me, and hear my prayer. | 1For the music director, to be accompanied by stringed instruments; a psalm of David. When I call out, answer me, O God who vindicates me! Though I am hemmed in, you will lead me into a wide, open place. Have mercy on me and respond to my prayer! |
How long, O you sons of men, Will you turn my glory to shame? How long will you love worthlessness And seek falsehood? Selah | 2You men, how long will you try to turn my honor into shame? How long will you love what is worthless and search for what is deceptive? (Selah) |
But know that the LORD has set apart for Himself him who is godly; The LORD will hear when I call to Him. | 3Realize that the LORD shows the godly special favor; the LORD responds when I cry out to him. |
Be angry, and do not sin. Meditate within your heart on your bed, and be still. Selah | 4Tremble with fear and do not sin! Meditate as you lie in bed, and repent of your ways! (Selah) |
Offer the sacrifices of righteousness, And put your trust in the LORD. | 5Offer the prescribed sacrifices and trust in the LORD! |
There are many who say, “Who will show us any good?” LORD, lift up the light of Your countenance upon us. | 6Many say, "Who can show us anything good?" Smile upon us, LORD! |
You have put gladness in my heart, More than in the season that their grain and wine increased. | 7You make me happier than those who have abundant grain and wine. |
I will both lie down in peace, and sleep; For You alone, O LORD, make me dwell in safety. | 8I will lie down and sleep peacefully, for you, LORD, make me safe and secure. |
