New King James Version | Holman Christian Standard Bible |
To the Chief Musician. With stringed instruments. A Psalm of David. Hear me when I call, O God of my righteousness! You have relieved me in my distress; Have mercy on me, and hear my prayer. | 1For the choir director: with stringed instruments. A Davidic psalm. Answer me when I call, God, who vindicates me. You freed me from affliction; be gracious to me and hear my prayer. |
How long, O you sons of men, Will you turn my glory to shame? How long will you love worthlessness And seek falsehood? Selah | 2How long, exalted men, will my honor be insulted? How long will you love what is worthless and pursue a lie? Selah |
But know that the LORD has set apart for Himself him who is godly; The LORD will hear when I call to Him. | 3Know that the LORD has set apart the faithful for Himself; the LORD will hear when I call to Him. |
Be angry, and do not sin. Meditate within your heart on your bed, and be still. Selah | 4Be angry and do not sin; on your bed, reflect in your heart and be still. Selah |
Offer the sacrifices of righteousness, And put your trust in the LORD. | 5Offer sacrifices in righteousness and trust in the LORD. |
There are many who say, “Who will show us any good?” LORD, lift up the light of Your countenance upon us. | 6Many are saying, "Who can show us anything good?" Look on us with favor, LORD. |
You have put gladness in my heart, More than in the season that their grain and wine increased. | 7You have put more joy in my heart than they have when their grain and new wine abound. |
I will both lie down in peace, and sleep; For You alone, O LORD, make me dwell in safety. | 8I will both lie down and sleep in peace, for You alone, LORD, make me live in safety. |
