Moreover Job continued his discourse, and said:1Moreover Job continued his parable, and said,
As God lives, who has taken away my justice, And the Almighty, who has made my soul bitter,2As God liveth, who hath taken away my judgment; and the Almighty, who hath vexed my soul;
As long as my breath is in me, And the breath of God in my nostrils,3All the while my breath is in me, and the spirit of God is in my nostrils;
My lips will not speak wickedness, Nor my tongue utter deceit.4My lips shall not speak wickedness, nor my tongue utter deceit.
Far be it from me That I should say you are right; Till I die I will not put away my integrity from me.5God forbid that I should justify you: till I die I will not remove mine integrity from me.
My righteousness I hold fast, and will not let it go; My heart shall not reproach me as long as I live.6My righteousness I hold fast, and will not let it go: my heart shall not reproach me so long as I live.
“May my enemy be like the wicked, And he who rises up against me like the unrighteous.7Let mine enemy be as the wicked, and he that riseth up against me as the unrighteous.
For what is the hope of the hypocrite, Though he may gain much, If God takes away his life?8For what is the hope of the hypocrite, though he hath gained, when God taketh away his soul?
Will God hear his cry When trouble comes upon him?9Will God hear his cry when trouble cometh upon him?
Will he delight himself in the Almighty? Will he always call on God?10Will he delight himself in the Almighty? will he always call upon God?
“I will teach you about the hand of God; What is with the Almighty I will not conceal.11I will teach you by the hand of God: that which is with the Almighty will I not conceal.
Surely all of you have seen it; Why then do you behave with complete nonsense?12Behold, all ye yourselves have seen it; why then are ye thus altogether vain?
“This is the portion of a wicked man with God, And the heritage of oppressors, received from the Almighty:13This is the portion of a wicked man with God, and the heritage of oppressors, which they shall receive of the Almighty.
If his children are multiplied, it is for the sword; And his offspring shall not be satisfied with bread.14If his children be multiplied, it is for the sword: and his offspring shall not be satisfied with bread.
Those who survive him shall be buried in death, And their widows shall not weep,15Those that remain of him shall be buried in death: and his widows shall not weep.
Though he heaps up silver like dust, And piles up clothing like clay—16Though he heap up silver as the dust, and prepare raiment as the clay;
He may pile it up, but the just will wear it, And the innocent will divide the silver.17He may prepare it, but the just shall put it on, and the innocent shall divide the silver.
He builds his house like a moth, Like a booth which a watchman makes.18He buildeth his house as a moth, and as a booth that the keeper maketh.
The rich man will lie down, But not be gathered up; He opens his eyes, And he is no more.19The rich man shall lie down, but he shall not be gathered: he openeth his eyes, and he is not.
Terrors overtake him like a flood; A tempest steals him away in the night.20Terrors take hold on him as waters, a tempest stealeth him away in the night.
The east wind carries him away, and he is gone; It sweeps him out of his place.21The east wind carrieth him away, and he departeth: and as a storm hurleth him out of his place.
It hurls against him and does not spare; He flees desperately from its power.22For God shall cast upon him, and not spare: he would fain flee out of his hand.
Men shall clap their hands at him, And shall hiss him out of his place.23Men shall clap their hands at him, and shall hiss him out of his place.
