Abraham again took a wife, and her name was Keturah.1Now Abraham had taken another wife, whose name was Keturah,
And she bore him Zimran, Jokshan, Medan, Midian, Ishbak, and Shuah.2and she bore him Zimran, Jokshan, Medan, Midian, Ishbak, and Shuah.
Jokshan begot Sheba and Dedan. And the sons of Dedan were Asshurim, Letushim, and Leummim.3Jokshan fathered Sheba and Dedan. Dedan's sons were the Asshurim, Letushim, and Leummim.
And the sons of Midian were Ephah, Epher, Hanoch, Abidah, and Eldaah. All these were the children of Keturah.4And Midian's sons were Ephah, Epher, Hanoch, Abida, and Eldaah. All these were sons of Keturah.
And Abraham gave all that he had to Isaac.5Abraham gave everything he owned to Isaac.
But Abraham gave gifts to the sons of the concubines which Abraham had; and while he was still living he sent them eastward, away from Isaac his son, to the country of the east.6And Abraham gave gifts to the sons of his concubines, but while he was still alive he sent them eastward, away from his son Isaac, to the land of the East.
This is the sum of the years of Abraham’s life which he lived: one hundred and seventy-five years.7This is the length of Abraham's life: 175 years.
Then Abraham breathed his last and died in a good old age, an old man and full of years, and was gathered to his people.8He took his last breath and died at a ripe old age, old and contented, and he was gathered to his people.
And his sons Isaac and Ishmael buried him in the cave of Machpelah, which is before Mamre, in the field of Ephron the son of Zohar the Hittite,9His sons Isaac and Ishmael buried him in the cave of Machpelah near Mamre, in the field of Ephron son of Zohar the Hittite.
the field which Abraham purchased from the sons of Heth. There Abraham was buried, and Sarah his wife.10This was the field that Abraham bought from the Hittites. Abraham was buried there with his wife Sarah.
And it came to pass, after the death of Abraham, that God blessed his son Isaac. And Isaac dwelt at Beer Lahai Roi.11After Abraham's death, God blessed his son Isaac, who lived near Beer-lahai-roi.
Now this is the genealogy of Ishmael, Abraham’s son, whom Hagar the Egyptian, Sarah’s maidservant, bore to Abraham.12These are the family records of Abraham's son Ishmael, whom Hagar the Egyptian, Sarah's slave, bore to Abraham.
And these were the names of the sons of Ishmael, by their names, according to their generations: The firstborn of Ishmael, Nebajoth; then Kedar, Adbeel, Mibsam,13These are the names of Ishmael's sons; their names according to the family records are: Nebaioth, Ishmael's firstborn, then Kedar, Adbeel, Mibsam,
Mishma, Dumah, Massa,14Mishma, Dumah, Massa,
Hadar, Tema, Jetur, Naphish, and Kedemah.15Hadad, Tema, Jetur, Naphish, and Kedemah.
These were the sons of Ishmael and these were their names, by their towns and their settlements, twelve princes according to their nations.16These are Ishmael's sons, and these are their names by their villages and encampments: 12 leaders of their clans.
These were the years of the life of Ishmael: one hundred and thirty-seven years; and he breathed his last and died, and was gathered to his people.17This is the length of Ishmael's life: 137 years. He took his last breath and died, and was gathered to his people.
(They dwelt from Havilah as far as Shur, which is east of Egypt as you go toward Assyria.) He died in the presence of all his brethren.18And they settled from Havilah to Shur, which is opposite Egypt as you go toward Asshur. He lived in opposition to all his brothers.
This is the genealogy of Isaac, Abraham’s son. Abraham begot Isaac.19These are the family records of Isaac son of Abraham. Abraham fathered Isaac.
Isaac was forty years old when he took Rebekah as wife, the daughter of Bethuel the Syrian of Padan Aram, the sister of Laban the Syrian.20Isaac was 40 years old when he took as his wife Rebekah daughter of Bethuel the Aramean from Paddan-aram and sister of Laban the Aramean.
Now Isaac pleaded with the LORD for his wife, because she was barren; and the LORD granted his plea, and Rebekah his wife conceived.21Isaac prayed to the LORD on behalf of his wife because she was childless. The LORD heard his prayer, and his wife Rebekah conceived.
But the children struggled together within her; and she said, “If all is well, why am I like this?” So she went to inquire of the LORD.22But the children inside her struggled with each other, and she said, "Why is this happening to me?" So she went to inquire of the LORD.
And the LORD said to her: “Two nations are in your womb, Two peoples shall be separated from your body; One people shall be stronger than the other, And the older shall serve the younger.”23And the LORD said to her: Two nations are in your womb; two people will come from you and be separated. One people will be stronger than the other, and the older will serve the younger.
So when her days were fulfilled for her to give birth, indeed there were twins in her womb.24When her time came to give birth, there were indeed twins in her womb.
And the first came out red. He was like a hairy garment all over; so they called his name Esau.25The first one came out red-looking, covered with hair like a fur coat, and they named him Esau.
Afterward his brother came out, and his hand took hold of Esau’s heel; so his name was called Jacob. Isaac was sixty years old when she bore them.26After this, his brother came out grasping Esau's heel with his hand. So he was named Jacob. Isaac was 60 years old when they were born.
So the boys grew. And Esau was a skillful hunter, a man of the field; but Jacob was a mild man, dwelling in tents.27When the boys grew up, Esau became an expert hunter, an outdoorsman, but Jacob was a quiet man who stayed at home.
And Isaac loved Esau because he ate of his game, but Rebekah loved Jacob.28Isaac loved Esau because he had a taste for wild game, but Rebekah loved Jacob.
Now Jacob cooked a stew; and Esau came in from the field, and he was weary.29Once when Jacob was cooking a stew, Esau came in from the field exhausted.
And Esau said to Jacob, “Please feed me with that same red stew, for I am weary.” Therefore his name was called Edom.30He said to Jacob, "Let me eat some of that red stuff, because I'm exhausted." That is why he was also named Edom.
But Jacob said, “Sell me your birthright as of this day.”31Jacob replied, "First sell me your birthright.""
And Esau said, “Look, I am about to die; so what is this birthright to me?”32Look," said Esau, "I'm about to die, so what good is a birthright to me?"
Then Jacob said, “Swear to me as of this day.” So he swore to him, and sold his birthright to Jacob.33Jacob said, "Swear to me first." So he swore to Jacob and sold his birthright to him.
And Jacob gave Esau bread and stew of lentils; then he ate and drank, arose, and went his way. Thus Esau despised his birthright.34Then Jacob gave bread and lentil stew to Esau; he ate, drank, got up, and went away. So Esau despised his birthright.
