New King James Version | English Standard Version |
To the Chief Musician. Set to “Lily of the Testimony.” A Michtam of David. For teaching. When he fought against Mesopotamia and Syria of Zobah, and Joab returned and killed twelve thousand Edomites in the Valley of Salt. O God, You have cast us off; You have broken us down; You have been displeased; Oh, restore us again! | 1O God, you have rejected us, broken our defenses; you have been angry; oh, restore us. |
You have made the earth tremble; You have broken it; Heal its breaches, for it is shaking. | 2You have made the land to quake; you have torn it open; repair its breaches, for it totters. |
You have shown Your people hard things; You have made us drink the wine of confusion. | 3You have made your people see hard things; you have given us wine to drink that made us stagger. |
You have given a banner to those who fear You, That it may be displayed because of the truth. Selah | 4You have set up a banner for those who fear you, that they may flee to it from the bow. Selah |
That Your beloved may be delivered, Save with Your right hand, and hear me. | 5That your beloved ones may be delivered, give salvation by your right hand and answer us! |
God has spoken in His holiness: “I will rejoice; I will divide Shechem And measure out the Valley of Succoth. | 6God has spoken in his holiness: “With exultation I will divide up Shechem and portion out the Vale of Succoth. |
Gilead is Mine, and Manasseh is Mine; Ephraim also is the helmet for My head; Judah is My lawgiver. | 7Gilead is mine; Manasseh is mine; Ephraim is my helmet; Judah is my scepter. |
Moab is My washpot; Over Edom I will cast My shoe; Philistia, shout in triumph because of Me.” | 8Moab is my washbasin; upon Edom I cast my shoe; over Philistia I shout in triumph.” |
Who will bring me to the strong city? Who will lead me to Edom? | 9Who will bring me to the fortified city? Who will lead me to Edom? |
Is it not You, O God, who cast us off? And You, O God, who did not go out with our armies? | 10Have you not rejected us, O God? You do not go forth, O God, with our armies. |
Give us help from trouble, For the help of man is useless. | 11Oh, grant us help against the foe, for vain is the salvation of man! |
Through God we will do valiantly, For it is He who shall tread down our enemies. | 12With God we shall do valiantly; it is he who will tread down our foes. |
