New King James Version | Berean Study Bible |
Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, | 1First of all, then, I urge that petitions, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgiving be offered for everyone— |
for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence. | 2for kings and all those in authority—so that we may lead tranquil and quiet lives in all godliness and dignity. |
For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, | 3This is good and pleasing in the sight of God our Savior, |
who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. | 4who wants everyone to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. |
For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus, | 5For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, |
who gave Himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time, | 6who gave Himself as a ransom for all—the testimony that was given at just the right time. |
for which I was appointed a preacher and an apostle—I am speaking the truth in Christ and not lying—a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and truth. | 7For this reason I was appointed as a preacher, an apostle, and a faithful and true teacher of the Gentiles. I am telling the truth; I am not lying about anything. |
I desire therefore that the men pray everywhere, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting; | 8Therefore I want the men everywhere to pray, lifting up holy hands, without anger or dissension. |
in like manner also, that the women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with propriety and moderation, not with braided hair or gold or pearls or costly clothing, | 9Likewise, I want the women to adorn themselves with respectable apparel, with modesty, and with self-control, not with braided hair or gold or pearls or expensive clothes, |
but, which is proper for women professing godliness, with good works. | 10but with good deeds, as is proper for women who profess to worship God. |
Let a woman learn in silence with all submission. | 11A woman must learn in quietness and full submissiveness. |
And I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man, but to be in silence. | 12I do not permit a woman to teach or to exercise authority over a man; she is to remain quiet. |
For Adam was formed first, then Eve. | 13For Adam was formed first, and then Eve. |
And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived, fell into transgression. | 14And it was not Adam who was deceived, but the woman who was deceived and fell into transgression. |
Nevertheless she will be saved in childbearing if they continue in faith, love, and holiness, with self-control. | 15Women, however, will be saved through childbearing, if they continue in faith, love, and holiness, with self-control. |
