A psalm of David. I call to you, LORD, come quickly to me; hear me when I call to you. | 1A psalm of David. O LORD, I cry out to you. Come quickly to me! Pay attention to me when I cry out to you! |
May my prayer be set before you like incense; may the lifting up of my hands be like the evening sacrifice. | 2May you accept my prayer like incense, my uplifted hands like the evening offering! |
Set a guard over my mouth, LORD; keep watch over the door of my lips. | 3O LORD, place a guard on my mouth! Protect the opening of my lips! |
Do not let my heart be drawn to what is evil so that I take part in wicked deeds along with those who are evildoers; do not let me eat their delicacies. | 4Do not let me have evil desires, or participate in sinful activities with men who behave wickedly. I will not eat their delicacies. |
Let a righteous man strike me--that is a kindness; let him rebuke me--that is oil on my head. My head will not refuse it, for my prayer will still be against the deeds of evildoers. | 5May the godly strike me in love and correct me! May my head not refuse choice oil! Indeed, my prayer is a witness against their evil deeds. |
Their rulers will be thrown down from the cliffs, and the wicked will learn that my words were well spoken. | 6They will be thrown down the side of a cliff by their judges. They will listen to my words, for they are pleasant. |
They will say, "As one plows and breaks up the earth, so our bones have been scattered at the mouth of the grave." | 7As when one plows and breaks up the soil, so our bones are scattered at the mouth of Sheol. |
But my eyes are fixed on you, Sovereign LORD; in you I take refuge--do not give me over to death. | 8Surely I am looking to you, O sovereign LORD. In you I take shelter. Do not expose me to danger! |
Keep me safe from the traps set by evildoers, from the snares they have laid for me. | 9Protect me from the snare they have laid for me, and the traps the evildoers have set. |
Let the wicked fall into their own nets, while I pass by in safety. | 10Let the wicked fall into their own nets, while I escape. |
